No, Eastenders is right; it's a little bit of something to encourage you to go to bed - a sweetie or such.

I think Sutter mentioned 'sweetie' as well in another thread to refer to sweets. So does my other half, who is German. Is this a Swiss and German thing?
I'm curious how it came about.

Yes, my hubby uses this often (to refer to me, of course ) but I think he
learned it in England.

The 'chräje rüefe' is the same as 'chörble' or politcally correct 'ha müesse umegä'..........for the opposite movement of swallowing....

Even worse than that was when my brother-in-law suggested a trip to the gym :

"Goemme jetzt go fitte?"

Or what about the Chinese Swiss-German phrase :

"Chung Hung gang Hei!" which translates roughly as " Come on little doggy, you must go home now!"

Re: Swiss German word of the day

I heard a word many times at work and wondered if it is specific for my company or widely used in Switzerland:

"mutieren": perfect High German for "mutate", but used as "change" in the sense that a customer changes his order or contract details. I heard this from several people independently, so I should get used to it. However, I am still surprised every time a colleague tells me that "your customer just mutated"....
