Swiss German word of the day

The office just finished laughing over "ÖpfelBütschgiStampfer" or "ÄpfelKerngahäuseEntferner" in German.

Apple core remover (or somesuch) for English speakers.

Your candidates? (apart from Bünzli of course).

Hudigägeler - Swiss traditional country music (I think)

Although, when I think about apple cores, it brings to mind the strange word we use for them up in my corner of England - "scrunt" - sounds a bit dodgy, but it's true.....

Labi for Labrador.

So, would a Lab pup then be called a 'Labili', anyone?

I like the conugations and expressions that fly in the face of German grammar and would make any German teacher cringe:

s'hät gstummä

Re: Swiss German word of the day

There was a collection of weird Swiss expressions (many from schoolkids) published a years ago with the title "Hesch e Kiosk i dr Eigernordwand?" Meaning: 'are you a little soft in the head?' (literally, do you run a kiosk set in the north face of the Eiger? and maybe derived from expressions like "Hesch alli Tasse im Schrank?" lit. are all your teacups in your cupboard?). Same resonance as American expressions like 'he's two bricks shy of a load' or 'he's not firing on all cylinders' or 'he's got a few screws loose.'

Just wondering where your part of England is. In my corner, the north east, we call 'em "Gooks"

My favourite? "Dammidemol". I use it a lot

Re: Swiss German word of the day

Those Swiss German swear words are just so gross, I way prefer the French ones.

Another nice Swiss German word
is
Fertig luschtig means something like "enough"

Re: Swiss German word of the day

he he he the Bütschgi is züritüütsch or at least very eastern, here we call it Gröibschi

if someone talks like a waterfall here we say : er het dr Schnureploderi
a hanky can become a 'bööggealbum' (scrapbook for bogeys )

as for the swearing gopfverdelli is not bad but dammidemol or gopfverdammi is regarded as very rude as it means gott verdamme mich = god doom me

Re: Swiss German word of the day

What about this :

"Heb d'Schnorre du A****, susch göme zäme use!"

- "Please refrain from irritating me, otherwise we may be obliged to leave the premises and settle our differences."

(With apologies to Eastenders for the bad spelling
and to Sada for the swearing)
