Re: What made your day today?

Seeing Mr. Big's face waiting at the baggage claim in the airport for me in Atlanta after being apart all week. Getting our paperwork for our visas squared away at the Swiss consulate. Knowing that we only have three weeks left until we are in Switzerland full time to meet all of you! Awesome day.

Re: What made your day today?

What made yesterday?
The three kids have been sick with scarlett fever and are finally well. My daughter had a birthday party and it went off beautifully, no fights, tears or boredom (you can never tell with 10yo girls).

the nutella recipe is very easy:

- 150 grams of butter
- 100 grams of dark chocolate
- 400 grams of condensed sweetened milk (i used a bit less)
- 4 tablespoons of cocao (grinted--not sure if that's the correct word...i mean using this thing with the holes...do i make sense?)
- 2 tablespoons of icing sugar (grinted)
- 1 cup of powder hazelnuts (i used a bit less)

melt the butter with the chocolate. mix the milk, cocao and icing sugar with the melted chocolate until smooth (no mixer required) and then add the hazelnut. when it cools down put in the fridge till it's more "solid"

you can keep in the fridge for a few days. better take it out from the fridde for a while before consuming because it tends to get quite hard.

DISCLAIMER: even if i call it nutella, the taste is not the same...sorry...it reminds me more of the filling of ferrero roche...kidna! in any case it is delicious!
to anyone interested: there is a change at the quantity of the condensed milk...sorry for any confusion

Re: What made your day today?

Waking up to see the trees covered in snow, going outside to shovel and having my neighbour's 5 year old come over to help leaving his mother to shovel their driveway alone . So being friendly pays off. Last week a few of the neighbourhood kids all came over to help shovel as the private streets do not get cleared. The kids have not yet heard that I bake seriously good muffins. They will find out soon enough. Perhaps then they will refer to me as the "muffin lady" rather than the lady with the pets.

Re: What made your day today?

It made my evening yesterday when we could actually get a table at the Italian
place down the road, without having to bother with booking!
And then watching the local boys shovelling the snow away , then coming in and eating their hard-earned pizza at the bar.

Sometimes the simplest things really are the nicest!!

My day was made today by discovering that my dog had not electrocuted herself in spite of chewing through 2 plugs and an extension flex on my humidifier!

Re: What made your day today?

Ah, the simple joys. The best!

Thanks for that home made Nutella recipe, I will test it. After we eat our liter jug of Nutella. They were selling it in Migros, we couldn't resist. At least we can say we bought it for our kid.

Lynn, congrats on your exam passed. I am seriously dragging my feet with school work, even joined PhD procrastinators group, how sad is that?!

What will make our day, hopefully, soon - will be a drumset arriving, bought and paid online, makes me nervous..

Re: What made your day today?

Watching the fabulous documentary "Man on Wire" about Philippe Petit's highwire crossing between the Twin Towers: breathtaking, spellbinding, and a good scare as well!

Most of the film consists of interviews with Petit and his "accomplices" recounting how they masterminded the event through years of planning. Unfortunately little footage was taken of his performance except views shot from the ground, but since the wire was nearly a mile overhead you can't see much. Still, a great show.
