Lidls in Oerlikon

Me and my daughter had a wonder down to the new lidl in Oerlikon this morning. Once we got throught the crowds and collected all the freebees they were throwing at us we finally made it inside.

Once inside and a fight still going on between our pushchair and dithering ankles, I headed straight to the fresh fruit and veg section. I was pleased to see it looked fresh and firm and there was a rather large selection on display. Quite impressed. Will see how long it keeps.

Next I headed to the cheese section in the hope I could find something that would pass as English but no, my luck was not in, all I could see was swiss cheese. (Which I don't have a problem with) Back to Migros for the good old Cathedral City on that one then.

After a few more rams with the pushchair and one emergency stop behind a very sweet but very old lady, I had a quick mooch around the rest of the store. As far as I could see it is pretty much the same stuff on sale as anywhere else in CH. Including everything ever invented pickled in neat jars.

All in all a nice store but after using lidl in UK and Germany I guess I was hoping for a new variety of products.

Has anyone else been brave enough to venture to the new lidl?

Re: Lidls in Oerlikon

I thought the prices were really reasonable. Some products cheaper than Migros and COOP. Some about the same.

I think the real test will come in the next few weeks when the shop settles down a bit. So much is on offer in there at the minute. Everywhere you look ACTION ACTION ACTION.

Re: Lidls in Oerlikon

It seems to me that Lidl selection is a wee bit bigger compared to Aldi. You surely get a few bargains here and there, but at the end of the day checking prices on a weekly basis is what it´s heading to. I just hope Lidl and Aldi can put up a bit of pressure on Migros and Coop to everybodies benefit.

I meant to say never shopped in Aldi in CH.

From what I remember, In the UK Aldi and Lidl are in competition with each other. So I imagine here is the same.
I like to shop for different things in different shops. Having a good browse around helps to keep costs down. I undertstand this is not easy for the employed to do so hope this thread helps.

boycott LIDL! it is a modern slave ship in terms how they treat the staff.
they were big in german press about harassing, mobbing and discriminating their employees...awful work conditions. and their procurement is very dodgy...child labour etc.

Re: Lidls in Oerlikon

I was in Oerlikon today and I did want to check out how Lidl is, but it was sooo crowded and loud that I avoided even walking near the entrance!

However, judging from their internet site and the offers, it can be quite cheaper than Coop and Migros. Would I trust eh offers? Don't know..

Back to Migros for the good old Cathedral City

You know you can get proper English cheddar from a regular member of this forum? I shan't provide a link to his website, lest I be accused of spam, but check out any of Grumpygrapefruit's threads in the commercial section of the forum.

You'll never touch Cathedral City ever again...

Unless you buy Fairtrade or local produce, I doubt if you would find much difference with the supply chains for most of the main supermarkets

Re: Lidls in Oerlikon

In the bits of Germany where I've lived, Lidl and Aldi often had pretty much the same stuff at similar prices, even sometimes having the same specials but at different times. In the ones I've visited in the Uk this has been the case also. There was one difference between them though, Lidl sell known brand products whereas Aldi have their own brands. I'll be having at look at the Oerlikon Lidl soon so thanks for the reconnaissance report.
