Hardware stores in Zurich?

Hiya

Can anyone point out where some hardware stores are in Zurich? Coming from NZ where everyone likes to do DIY, I can't believe I'm struggling to find a basic hardware goods store here..I’m so used to them being at every shopping centre.

I'm after screws, (a decent selection). And a small electricians screwdriver set. (nothing to hard to find?)

I found some screws in co-op, but they were in a box set and only one out of the dozen types inside the box interested me. I’ve even hunted through Ikea for these (a mission I tell you!) but found nothing suitable there either..

Please help!

Re: Hardware stores in Zurich?

have a look at www.jumbo.ch to find a big diy-store. Other option (but not as well stocked) is the migros brunaupark

There's also a huge Bauhaus in Schlieren, much bigger than Jumbo: http://www.bauhaus.ch/

In Zurich-Seefeld there's Blattner AG, Seefeldstrasse 17, 8008 Zurich (formerly Eisenwaren Meyer). Tram 2 to Opernhaus or Kreuzstrasse (one stop after Stadelhofen).
A little on the expensive side, but very handy if you haven't got a car or time to rush out to Jumbo or Coop Baucenter.

On a related issue, if you're ever looking for an oldfashioned electronics parts place (the kind of shop with everything from chips to piles of ancient tube radio sets piled in a corner) have a look at http://www.pusterla.ch/

They're in the middle of the redlight district, which is part of the charm of the place.

+1 for Pusterla - that is where I get my parts aside from the Helvetiaplatz market on Saturdays for seconds.

I second (or third) this - I used to live 100 M from Pusterla. They have almost anything you could want - and the staff are very knowlegable and helpful

It is an Aladins cave

The CO-OP hobby und Bau in Pfaffikon SZ (I can't speak for the other stores), has a huge selection of nuts, bolts, screws, springs, washers etc etc. You buy them by weight.

-1 for bauhaus. Its a load of old tat there. I went for a handdrill, which they dont have, but they do have 30 different power drills (??), starting at 29chf. (oh and drillbits come in packets of two, go figure..)

they do have a whole aisle of screws, but i wouldnt go there for anything half decent... or what they'd probably describe as 'specialised'.

Blattner is not cheap indeed but clearly the best. Not as good but with a wide choice of things AND cheap is the Jumbo Hardbrücke
www.jumbo.ch/standorte/jumbo_easy/zuerich.html quite near to Bhf Hardbrücke

I second this recommendation. I love Blattner! Has lots of cool nooks and crannies, and a mom and pop store kind of feel to it....a nice change from the Jumbo giant.

Re: Hardware stores in Zurich?

Hi

The Jumo site doesn't have an English version. I am trying to get hold of the following:-

A Power Supply Transistor (for a generator). spec as follows:-

Has 5 legs
hp-compact hpc
hpc-4014 inverter charger
EM07AB
LM2575HUT
-12P+

Other detail I was given was that the company was Studer but I can't seem to find that company on the net

Trouble is, I need to get hold of one this week
If anyone knows where I could pick up one of these, I would be grateful
I will try the Migros at Brunapark - thanks

Don't know if it is cheap but you can try Migros do-it-garden stores.
