why, Why, WHY...??

...does Migros not sell (real) beer?
...do all supermarkets close at 18:30 on friday evenings (whilst you're still trying to find the beer section in the supermarket you're currently in)?
...aren't there taxi ranks outside supermarkets (so that you have half a hope of getting home with all the stuff you bought - but didn't need - whilst you were wandering round the supermarket trying to find the beer section)?

You should read about the founding and founder of Migros - it's an interesting story. And why they are called Migros.

They have never sold alcohol and you'll notice they don't sell cigarettes either.

Our MM Migros is open until 8:00pm (5:00pm on Saturdays).

Taxis? There is a rank within 80 metres of our Migros. Not the Coop though, judging by the car park it seems you need an SUV to shop there...

Migros may not sell alcohol but you often see a retailer that does - usually a discount one like Denner - very close by. I suspect they even have some sort of system to team up with other retailers in shopping centers so consumers can buy everything - including alcohol, tobacco and spirits - without Migros going back on its ideals.

with opening hours, I find Zurich's not bad - the big stores are open until 8:00 p.m. weekdays. Saturday's a pain though, most of them close at 4:00 or 5:00 and the shops tend to be overflowing with people all day

Try "Carrefour", this is a french supermarket outside Zurich, in Dietlikon, this is
THE BIGGEST supermarket in Zurich area, and it is opened until late at night, 8PM!!!!!

Migros bought Denner some months ago, so fags and booze near to Migros is ensured.

I thing 8:00pm is too late for stores to open anyway. If you haven't bought it by then, what difference will it make?

Um...8 PM is a good closing time if you have to work. Most of us get off work between 6 and 7. If you and your partner both commute and work it's impossible to keep the pantry and fridge stocked unless you have one of these 8 PM stores near your home.

When I had a store that closed at 8 PM I stopped by there twice a week on my way home from work between 6:30 and 7:00. Now that the only store on my way home closes at 6:30 I rarely make it and we have to plan big grocery shopping days on Saturday, which is a pain.

It's those 5:00am starts that mean going to bed by 10:00pm that do it....

Try the AVEC and Migrol shops for Beer and Liquors which also sells Migros Products

I often get Beer from AVEC in the main station(Opposite Banhohquai) around 10 in the night after my work

You have many places to get everything.. just zurich is not about migros and coop..

It sort of is, as Migros own Avec and Migrol...
