Zug - I think I'm in love....

I have only lived here one week but I love :

1. The very friendly Zugistas
2. The pleasure of being able to traverse the whole city on foot in about 45 minutes - the size of two large London suburbs.
3. The 1960's feel of the department stores
4. That you can get an excellent uncrowded 6.30 am swim in pristine water, and a one year ticket costs 200F compared with 1,000F in London.
5. The way they have got it right getting cars and people to live together happily and safely in a city.

Having read threads for three months before coming to live I was fearing the worst, but I have not yet been walked into, had someone be rude to me, or have a neighbour complain about me using my electric toothbrush on a Sunday or after 21.00 hours.......

However I feel that proximity to Zurich is a bit of a drawback socially for Zug expats, most of the action seems to gravitate magnetically there, rather than fuel a separate Zug scene - it this so?

Hi,

I visited Zug in February, what an absolutely beautiful place, I can't wait to return in the summer, it actually reminded me of Chester a little only alot more picturesque, you lucky thing living over there!

Best wishes

Jo

Re: Zug - I think I'm in love....

Yes, Jo, and it continues to grow (the lake was stunning this morning!) on me....Although I got stuck in the snow last week ( no snow tyres - thinking we were done with snow for the winter....). I enjoyed every moment of the 20 minutes it took me, to dig myself out with a piece of cardboard I had in the boot, as myriad snow-tyre shod zugistamobiles drove neatly around my silly predicament, the drivers only occasionally glancing at me, with a look of pity and bemusement.......

Re: Zug - I think I'm in love....

Hi Felix, I live in Zug as well and find it a beautiful and very international corner in Switzerland. But to tell you the truth, I do not know where all these expats are? You are probably right, that most people go to Zurich. Now, there is a nice place called Almodobar (in the Siemens building next to that train station), which has become the in-place in town. Maybe we could meet for a drink there, and also others living in Zug or closeby would like to join. Gabriela

Re: Zug - I think I'm in love....

Hi guys I will be moving to Zug at the end of the month and hopefully if i can get a place to live in Zug we can start a movement to localise an expat scene!!

To be honest I dont know where I will be living yet - but as my work will be in Zug I am firstly looking there... I am big into cycling and look forward to being able to hit the local roads.... Having been in Asia for the last half a decade I wasnt able to cycle that much so living in Zug has its appeal!

Re: Zug - I think I'm in love....

Indeed, it would be great if we could start an expat scene here!! We'll try to meet with Felix after the 14th, may u are by chance in Zug

U will love Zug if you like cycling. You can look forward to.

If you are looking for an apartment, try the AMTSBLATT. This is the local paper and you find everything there. Zug is tiny, so apartments are somewhat scarce, depending on what you are looking for (size and monthly rent)

Ok, I'm now back from a gruelling visitfest and ensconced once more in Zug heaven - any day from the 19th April onward is good for me!

Members of http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Expats-in-Zug have get togethers. The most recent discussion about it is...

Re: Zug get together

What an encouraging response - thank you all!

Now, which gets our collective vote - coffee (morning presumably) or
bar/restaurant (evening)?

Pencilled in for (say) the 18th April?

Re: Zug - I think I'm in love....

Felix, see you on Friday then. Shall we meet at the main entrance of the Almodobar? I'll have a red scarf, so you can recognize me .

I posted the get-together and unfortunately, a couple of people will not be able to make it this time, but in the future. Some will arrive only in May. Gabriela
