Pick Your Own or Self-service berries: Where in VD?

Hi,

Now it is good time to go to pick some berries or cherries, in the States we did that very often in late spring/summer. I searched thee web and the forum a bit, but could not find any mentioning of such places in Switzerland.

Can anyone direct us to the places to pick our own berries (strawberries, raspberries, and perhaps others), cherries, etc., not very far from Lausanne?

Thanks in advance,

Miss Kitty

When they are in season, the farms usually put up signs easily visable from the road.

There is a farm in Romanel-sur-Lausanne that you can pick fresh strawberries from about now until late June/early July. Sorry, I can't remember the name but it is off the main street, across the railway line, past the school and over a little bridge on the edge of the forest. You will see signs with a big picture of a strawberry from town showing you the way.

The kids and I had lots of fun picking strawberries last year.

Take a couple of buckets/containers with you and then just pay by weight of what you pick at the end.

There are a few areas in Neuchâtel, but maybe that is too far away?

I live in Gland which is about 25 minutes from Lausanne toward Geneva. I love to take the roads that go along the lake from Gland to Lausanne. In the past few days I've noticed a lot of farmers have posted their signs for 'u pick strawberries'. In my garden, however, the strawberries aren't quite ready. I suspect in the next couple of weeks you'll find many places if you take a drive along the lake on Route Suisse.

Good luck!

I stopped in at the farm I mentioned above and found out that the self picking for strawberries starts this coming Tuesday 2nd June.

The hours are Mon 8.30-11.30 and 14-18h, Tues 14-18h, Wed 8.30-11.30, Thurs morning and afternoon, Fri afternoon only and Saturday morning only.

The address is Le Taulard, ch du Boulard 1, 1032 Romanel phone 021 647 8122.

When you get to the farm drive past the farm house/shop and park right beside the strawberry field.

Have fun. I bought some strawberries from there today and they are delicious.

Strawberry picking season is upon us again. Yay!

Here are the times for the farm in Romanel-sur-Lausanne.

Let's hope we have a bit more sunshine to grow those strawberries nice and juicy. Yummy, yummy.

Re: Pick Your Own or Self-service berries: Where in VD?

I saw another farm offering pick-your-own strawberries while cycling between Morges and Crissier last week, it is on Rte du Lonay, Echandens, just west of where the circle on this map is. They were very busy when I went past at around 11am on Saturday, but were closed when I came back past at around 1pm. This is probably the closest place to Lausanne where you can do this (but please correct me if you know better).

Re: Pick Your Own or Self-service berries: Where in VD?

Hi All,

We intend to go strawberry picking. I checked this farm in Rolle http://www.ufl.ch/Fruits-du-Paradis-...e-de-Vers.html
where the season is between 20 may till 20 jun

I am wondering if this weekend is too early and the berries will be quite ready Or should I wait until next weekend?

Anyone already visited the farms? Feedback please...

Hi

My wife went on Monday with the kids to a strawberry farmer in Genolier

It is defenitely not too early. She paid 5 CHF for 1 Kilo, which is even cheaper than Carrefour in Divonne but about 10 x tastier...

Don't forget to take your own "paniers"!!

Have fun!!

Re: Pick Your Own or Self-service berries: Where in VD?

So we were in the farm "Pré-de-Vers" at rolle this weekend. Had loads of fun picking the strawberries. You can take your own "panier" Or alternatively they also provide them on the spot, free of charge. Very yummy and costs 5.2chf per kilo.

They have a self service shop, that is open all year 24/7, where you can buy seasonal vegetables. To buy from the self service shop, you must carry the exact cash to pay at the red cash box.

They will have blueberries in another 3 weeks from now...
