Nappies

why are they so damn EXPENSIVE here???

next, we usually get size 4+ jumbo pampers baby dry for about £10-£12 depending on where you purchase, here when I went to get them in COOP its CHF 39.70 for exactly the same product

fellow forumers, kindly let me know any cheaper options available, willing to try other decent brands

Thank You

all articles for babies n children are very expensive here, i assume its due to low demand. Even school bags cost a bomb.

Re: Nappies

Try the supermarkets' own brands. Another poster on another thread is a fan of Denner's own brand.

You can also get Migros and Coop's own.

Coop and Migros often have a 3 for 2 sale on nappy packs which knocks down the price and you can buy value packs of baby bum wipes.

They do cost an arm and a leg and we are now forking out a fortune on small treats every time our toddler poos in the loo rather than his nappy so the expense just keeps going...

Re: Nappies

The Co-op regularly runs a 3 for the price of 2 offer on Pampers which is a good time to stock up and is teh cheapest way to buy nappies. Alternatlvely the CO-op own brand nappies are pretty decent.

How can there be low demand for nappies? I think, biologically, Swiss babies poo just as frequently as all babies around Europe.

Re: Nappies

I use the Migros Budget nappies. They are good value for money, costing around CHF 12 for 50 odd pieces in a pack- better made than the budget ones in the UK which made my toddler break out in an awful rash.

You can try local brands at Migros, Coop and Denner, they are comparitively cheap but I am not very sure about the quality. Its worth buying nappies in bulk when they come in 50% offer, keep an eye on the publicities. Recently Migros had buy 1 get 1 free offer on nappies, do keep looking for such offers, they come quite often.

Re: Nappies

I would NEVER buy nappies in Coop, just too expensive. Denner has the same Pampers jumbo packs on special for around 88 nappies for CHF 26. Specials run about every 3 months. They try to confuse the consumer by offering different sized packs at different prices. I always work out the price per nappy. Aldi nappies are also very good and cost CHF 18 for a normal sized pack.

Better still...toilet train my son only uses them for night time now.

Re: Nappies

We get our nappies from Aldi, which are much cheaper than the branded ones in Coop and Migros.

I noticed yesterday Spar have an offer on Pampers at the moment so if might be worth stocking up from there whilst they're cheap!

Re: Nappies

I tried different brands, but I think Pampers are the best. If you think about it, buying cheaper nappies but having to change them twice as much, it's not really worth it...

But I strongly advise to keep your eyes open for the special offers. The 'maxi-pack' which you pay 40.- instead of 60.- are particularly interesting. You can usually find them in the very big Coop.

And for baby paraphernalia in general (stroller, crib, etc.) I strongly recommand to go to France or Germany. Not only it is cheaper there, but you can also ask for a detax at customs, and spare an additional 10-15%. This way, I paid my stroller 500.- instead or 1000.-!!!

Luckily we are close to Denner & Ottos as well. I will keep an eye on offers at Denner. I will try ALDI own brand. Obivously I dont want the ones which causes nappy rashes, as we have come here from UK for better quality of life!!

Thanks for your suggestions!!

Just on the subject of nappy rash we found that an ointment from the pharmacy called Oxyplast is the bees knees when it comes to treating it and forming a barrier against it getting any worse.

It looks like you have painted their little bottoms white but it works wonders. Had been using Sudocrem up to that point but it went in the bin after we discovered Oxyplast.

Re: Nappies

We've tried both Pampers and Huggies as well as the Aldi ones and the only times we've had any leaks have been with the Pampers! We just stick to the Aldi nappies now as really don't think it is worth paying extra for the branded ones. We've never had any nappy rash either (touch wood!)

Re: Nappies

I find that Pampers are 'thinner' and softer than the other brands. My son developed an awful rash with the Coop brand, I think he was allergic to it. And I find Huggies a bit rough to the touch. As for Migros brand, I find them very thick, taking a lot of place in the pants!

And for awful rashes, I would recommand using Eosine (can be bought in every pharmacy). It's awfully messy (if you get some on your fingers, you'll be bright red for about 3 days ), but it works wonderfully well. It dries up a sore bottom in one night, it's magical.

Caution - Migros own brand don't contain the effects of a Code Brown Nappy Blast. Been there, washed out my T-shirt...

Oh well, we had a case of exploding poo no later than yesterday, and even the Pampers didn't resist... Nappies able to contain such atomic disasters have still to be invented!

Simple . The total number of babies born is less as compared to say UK, the quantities of imports made is much lower, so importers cannot get the same pricing as offered to other big chains in other countries

Re: Nappies

Unfortunately I think looking out for special offers is the only solution. Sometimes the offers are that good (especially in Denner) that Pampers are nearly as cheap as the other brands. I think I tried every brand available in CH when we came, Pampers are just the best.
