Re: Are you Gluten intolerant/Celiac?
Have no fear--it's not too difficult to live here with celiac disease (which I have and am extremely sensitive). If you're not used to preparing your own meals, though, I would recommend that you go get used to it quickly. Learning to cook properly can actually be a very fun and rewarding experience.
If you're living in Zuerich, you'll have a much easier time of it than I do living in a more rural area. As a matter of fact, there's a gluten free store called "Mr. and Mrs. Gluten Free" that has a pretty good selection of food.
If you're looking for tapioca starch, check one of the Thai markets. Otherwise, the reformhaus should have everything you're looking for, although you may need to visit more than one to find everything you need. Even Coop and Migros have a decent selection of bread for you.
Also, don't worry about Aromat being in everything--that's just a bit of hyperbole. If you do wish to try Aromat, however, Migros and Coop each have a gluten free version. Their gluten free store brands are Ah-ha and Free From.
If all else fails, you can go to Constance in Germany, which has a much greater selection of gluten free products.
