Hmm,
I think Zurich is not Switzerland. My visa attaches me to the office canton for a while or I have to pay a huge sum to live elsewhere.
Try living in Baar where the neighbours are real cows or nasty single-minded folk who complain if you shower too late or don't open your curtains enough for them to peek in. I suppose you are also not single and looking to meet someone. Throws this place in a different light then I tell you. The only singles I find are divorcees with 1-3 kids.... lovely stuff (and while I feel sorry for them I also don't need an instant family just yet). WHERE ARE ALL THE SINGLE PEOPLE? You can keep the mountains and chocolates. I cant face looking at another mountain and lake by myself anymore I work weekends so as to avoid the loneliness. | Quote: | | | | | Hi,
It is the best Europeon country.I love the transportation, snow covered mountains, chocolates and so much more to tell but there are no words to match the beauty of this place. This is what I like about this place.

Do you think I should share?
(BTW nothing wrong with a divorcee with children - you could be missing out on the company of some fantastic women just by deciding that you don't want 'an instant family'. Who says any of them want an 'instant dad' like you anyway? )

Oh God you're so funny & so cool Another shot from the peanut gallery that thinks Zurich = Baar. I am gone come July BTW so you're also too late.
And granted there are surely loads of divorced mums out there (who wouldn't want me) that are pretty awesome and my choice of words was poor - no excuses but see if you can even find them in Baar - nothing - nada nil.
Try living outside of Zurich in the country before you get so chirpy - it sucks. | Quote:

I do live outside of Zurich, in the country. Zurich is the name of the canton, as well as the city. It's quiet here, and I love it. The neighbours are decent, no trouble at all, and there seem to be plenty of single people about.
If you want to know about enforced rural celibacy, try living in the countryside of Greece, where you are likely to get stabbed for looking at the local unmarried women. I coped. In fact, I loved my time there, though I remained single for the whole duration of my stay (two years).
It's all about adaptation. If you can't adapt, then you're wasting your time here, or anywhere, for that matter.
As for there being no attractive divorcees in Baar, I happen to know from personal experience that that is utter bollocks.
Life is what you make it. You can gripe, moan and whinge and be miserable, or you can get off your arse, look it in the eye and give it a hard kick in the knackers.
Your choice.

| | | | Re: OK now tell me what you LOVE about Switzerland
Just to illustrate a simple point. An office of 27 people (some single some families) was moved here from June through December. 33% have left already, another 3 on their way. That totals around 44%. Problem - mostly singles (well 9 anyway) so I cant be far wrong.
Human resource types will tell the directors it's good to get new blood in. Most apart from myself have been with the organisation for less than 4 years. So in fact we're loosing the new blood.
I lived in Czech for 4 years combination of Prague and country and I lived in Budapest for 3 years - lovely places.
And you can kick yourself in the bollocks if you like. Your choice. I spend as little time here as possible and cant wait for my move. It's all about choices. If you love the place it's your choice. If I hate it, it's mine. I don't care if you love it - good for you - but then you're a Brummy so no wonder you love it here, the rain & low clouds probably make you feel at home. Just get of your self righteous arse and let me have my vent without behaving as if your opinion is the only one thats right. I happily accept some people love it here. I mean my boss does and I think he never had friends where he came from either |

Self righteous? Not at all. I just despise whingers, especially those who choose to whinge on a thread specifically started to say good things about Switzerland.
To put it bluntly: If you don't like it here, why don't you piss off?

Typical teacher, think you're God. Nobodies allowed to challenge ol' teach cos he's so clever and always right.
I'll winge all I want and good for you. You have a great 'chick' who brought you here and you're messing around in Baar with all the divorcees. Go figure.
Uptight and always ready for a fight I suppose. Let that little coiled up spring go before it does you some injury.

I spend my days wiping noses and cleaning up after three year olds. Hardly the occupation of a 'god'. Do you have some kind of chip on your shoulder about teachers? Have you considered therapy?
And what's this nonsense about a 'great chick' who brought me here? What on earth are you wittering on about? And 'messing around' with divorcees in Baar? Gosh, you seem terribly confused.
Anyway, your peculiar brand of bitterness is driving this thread far from its original purpose, which was to find good things to say about Switzerland. There is a complaints section specially for people like you. Perhaps you'd like to use it to lament on how unhappy you are, and how you are not prepared to actually do anything to change that, other than bitch about the good citizens of Baar on an anonymous forum?
Have a lovely day. I have work to do. |

Apologies, was having my face filled with food.
Teach - you're dead right of course.
Good citizens of Baar & Switzerland, if I've offended you, I apologise and did mean it.
What started out merely as a note to say - well some of us don't really like it so much (for various reasons) - goes horribly wrong as Teach & I managed to wrestle this topic away from it's intent. I admit it, I am guilty but Teach you're no angel either (you shouldn't have mentioned my knackers - I am quiet sensitive about those after playing cricket in a position they should call BLOODY STUPID MID-ON and not just Silly Mid-on). Any mention of my boys and they still cringe & I get jumpy.
There are some incredible things about Switzerland, I am the first to admit it (to family & friends). The kids that feel safe to walk themselves to school each day without their parents (but perhaps need ol Teach to wipe their noses & clean up after them on occasion - hats off to you, dunno how you do it - you'll probably be a great dad unlike me). I don't think you will find this anywhere else in this world - it is a miracle each morning when I see them toddling off to school, no mom or dad in tow. The consideration people have when they build - putting up frames to show the neighbours where it's going so they can stop it if they want. The location within Europe - nuff said. The mountains, the chockolates (was that really a spell check thing? I like to blame it on my fat, clumsy fingers but what the heck lets blame it on Bill Gates & Windoze, I can live with that) The public transport system - spotless, on time, every time. The number of great people I have met that definitely (and by far) outweigh the miserable sods (who like me, who can only whinge) that spend their life making others as miserable. The Swiss multi-lingual-ism has me stunned because you make it seem so easy switching between up to four languages (if you count Swiss German as a different one from Hoch Deutsch) without skipping a beat. Not to mention the rest of your education system. The galleries, the history, loads of things. The fact that the Swiss genuinely seem to care for the environment and not simply pretend. The quality of the apartments, the fittings like I have never seen before - just hop across the pond to the land where they measure by the inch, talk by the yard (and should quite frankly often be kicked by the foot) and see some of the dodgy apartments you pay big bills for. There is a whole lot more- I could go on and on but then that is probably against my character so I wont overdo it.
Just for people like me with a chip on both shoulders (because I had dodgy teachers probably don't take it personally Teach). Switzerland is not for me - my fault, he's dead right it's up to me to pick up my goodies and go. I will. I may even one day regret it. What I will regret even more though, is the strange brand of tax structuring that does not allow me to move to Zurich (but allows our company to take full benefit which is not passed on to us - a long story but our fault, we signed stupid contracts - only ourselves to blame). A city with life (yes it is my definition of life - you can keep the beavers and the mountains) and probably a place I could be happy and have no complaints whatsoever.
The thing that keeps nagging at me though is that amongst some of Switzerland's more notable claims to fame are Albert Einstein's theory of relativity, Absynth, LSD. I would say all three potentially created out of immense boredom (please be as obtuse as I am for this one Teach). I unfortunately am not so clever that I will be able to dream up anything as great.
So Teach lets call it quits. You have your quiet little place in the bushes you love - happy for you. (and you mentioned your Swiss chick first but lets not go there). I left the bush because the sound of crickets chirping, mosquitos worse than the Mpumalanga Lowveld, cows mooing & the rain in Zug right through the summer - drove me dilly. Not to mention the stinky stuff that keeps being plastered over ever bit of open ground to make it so green. Pig-poop fertiliser in not for the faint of heart I tell you
May the force be with you and count yourself lucky that it's not piggy bottoms you have to wipe clean

Have a nice evening.

I mentioned no 'chick' in this thread, or any other (what a horrible expression. Do I look like a beatnik?). Perhaps you have me confused with someone else.
Good luck with your move, anyway. No point hanging around somewhere you're unhappy.

I think you must look at the Switzerland map properly to know where all the others places. The problem is not with the mountains and chocolates it is your Visa so that you are not allowed to visit places. That is good to work on week ends to avoid the loneliness but for how long you will be running from this suitation.Any way All the best. | Quote: | | | | | Hmm,

Rachel thanks you're right of course. So is Dougal's Breakfast.
It is just that spending 4-5 days per week commuting between London, Zurich, Moscow and Bucharest kind of dissuades me from wanting to get back on a train on the weekend or in the evenings to travel again. I have spent 8 days in CH since 2 January. Not CH's fault of course but mine.
Anyhow, am off as soon as I can. Enjoy it.
(most things are closed weekends except of course for the mountains)

One suspects the poster in question may have been a little inebriated when he made these posts.
I can't think of any other particular reason why a fellow would show himself up so much.
Bless his little 'single and lonely in Baar' socks.

Lucky fellow!
Swiss women, like most women around the world, I should imagine, are really quite lovely.
There are the occasional bad apples amongst them, but only a nasty, screwed-up psychoball would hold that against the rest of Swiss womanhood.
In fact, I'd like to add Swiss women to the list of things I love about the wonderful country.
Here's to them all! Even the unpleasant ones!
