| Following a series of affairs, an infamous romance with his half-sister, a broken marriage, and rumours of homosexuality, the once-respected Byron was cast into exile.
So began Byron's second adventure, which was about rebellion.
In Switzerland, Italy and Greece, Byron participated in new levels of 'depravity'. This period gave birth to Byron's great rebellious statement and masterpiece, Don Juan, which challenged British attitudes to sex.
His rebellion was complete when he disowned Britain and joined the Greek Movement for Independence. | |
