You can call WWZ.

Hello

this is probably a daft question, but who or which company do I need to tell that I have moved into a flat (zug) so that I can pay them for the electricity I use? Or will the rental agent tell the correct company?

thanks in advance for your help

C.

Hey Castro!

Did you find your power pirate?

My family is moving into a place and.. is their a choice of power providers?

In New Zealand there were at least 5 to choose from.. has gotten to the point you can register with a website that buys power cheaply from all 5 and sells it onto you... overall it was much cheaper!

Re: What are you paying for electric?

Ah, I just discovered that the power provider in Basel is.. a monopoly, well, a CO-OP run by the Kanton.

Unfortunately not, however we're leaving soon so it doesn't really matter anymore.

Re: What are you paying for electric?

All electricity providers in Switzerland are monopolies - usually state owned. Mine is the EKZ: their prices are lower than in the UK.

We pay CHF40/month for non-heating electricity and a further CHF85/month for central heating and hot water by heat pump.

This is for a 5½ room well-insulated detached house...

Re: What are you paying for electric?

Jumping on an old post here, but it was the most relevant....Looked at an old bauernhaus that's around 200sq m / 8 rooms. They said that the annual utilities bills are about 2000 CHF a year. I would have fallen off my chair had I been sitting down, and I wondered if perhaps I had misunderstood, especially when this was said with the comment "which is quite reasonable". I don't know if I am just being naive, and this is a typical amount for a big house (living in a little 3.5 room apartment at the moment)...does anyone here live in a house and can tell me if this is normal?! Thanks!!

I would say this is completely normal - and it would be for the UK too. Your profile does not show where you are from and what you are comparing with what, but older poorly insulated buildings can eat power if heated to reasonable levels.

Further to my previous post we just got our updated bill for the last 12 months. We have a new detached house 155sq metres 5½ rooms and we like it warm in the winter. We have only electricity and heating & hot water is by heat pump:

12 months heating and hot water =
CHF 339.35
12 months all other electricty =
CHF 955.40
Total =
CHF1294.75

Re: What are you paying for electric?

If you have to pay for your heating then I guess this is perfectly normal and on par with any other country. Might be even on the cheap side for Switzerland. My parents pay about 1500CHF annually for heating gas in Poland, and electric heating is usually even more expensive.

I live in an 3 room appt here, and biggest part of my bill is the water-boiler that runs at night (the low tariff). About 750CHF annually. Central heating is included in the nebenkosten but this could easily be another 750CHF if paid privately.

Re: What are you paying for electric?

Ok brilliant, thanks very much! I think I just realised again how poor my maths is because you are right, I just found some old gas and electric bills from my flat in London, and for a 2 bed flat it worked out about 1100 CHF a year. So for a massive house I guess that's actually fair enough. Lesson to self - must engage brain before asking ignorant question.

Yeah great comment...
Read again my post on page 1 of this topic and rethink your comment:
Is massive house will explain high electricity bill?
Is it relevant to compare a bill of 2 different locations, 2 different countries ?

...
hints: price per unit (= 0.xCHF /1KWH); devices, average use, etc...

Think fuel: you pay x CHF /L, the more you consume, the more it cost...
You would take the hummer, it would be 20chf/km, you take the hybrid car, it would be 5chf/km... at the end your electricity bill is the total amount of your consumptions.

Re: What are you paying for electric?

Hello all!
I was reading this and it is very interesting.
I am thinking in move to a flat in Thalwil (Switzerland) and the former tenant told us that in the rent included all costs, but other people say that light always comes on another invoice. It is true??
And if it comes in another bill, which would be the normal monthly cost of a two-bedroom apartment??
Are there any other costs in addition to o monthly rent??
Thank you very much in advance!!
