Hello people.

I come from Slovakia and have been to Switzerland quite a lot of times and in fact spent a few months living with a family but this was a while ago....

However, I have been living in the UK most of the time for the last 10 years and now I feel like I need to move on somewhere else for a number of reasons......(bad weather, don't feel safe here in the UK etc etc.....)

I love Switzerland I have always dreamt of living in there and still intend to do so, but was wondering whether you could spare some of your experiences with me and tell me what British people miss in Switzerland. I want to know things that would perhaps make you want to go back to the UK? Is there anything so bad that you cannot live with?

I miss nothing but the food to be honest. Among a hundred things i could list... I want middle-bacon with thick rind that I can chew for an hour. I want proper sliced bread, nice and soft, bigger than 1 square inch that doesn't cheerfully stick a finger up at you as you try to butter it. I want meat that costs less than the average third world country GDP, and finally I want crisps that come in more than two flavours.

Ok I miss the naughtier women too, but i'd settle just for the bacon.

I hear you, Gabi. I also lived in the UK for long enough to miss a few things now I live here:
- Sausages (filled with apple and sage or any of the many other flavours)
- Bacon (they cut the pig differently here, I am told)
- Cheddar (you can get it, but not so cheaply...)
... but most importantly:
THE BEACH!!!

What do I not miss (but found very weird to adjust to in my first few months here):
- Health and Safety, particularly in children's playgrounds and so on.
- The whole approach to parenting, that is less over-protective here than in the UK, probably a good thing (or maybe not, time will tell me).

You people are crazy!!! You are missing sausages and bacon from here???? Come on - I come from a country where sausages are REAL!!! haha

sorry, I don't find English sausages that good! :-)) so I wouldn't miss those.....and crisps??? Hmmmmm.......the shelves are full of them here - not good at all

So far vou've been replied to by real men here so first things on the list is food, drink and soccer. Don't expect intelligent opinions about shoestores and things like that

English sausages are among the best in the world. Fact.

Actually to be honest I miss the clothes shopping like crazy... the UK is the best place to buy fashion at the moment, so much variety and the prices are crazy cheap.

I miss being able to get a flat within a week!!!! I've been here 6 weels and still looking.

I would actually like to hear something that would actually make you want to leave that country......like I can't stand being here anymore because of the weather (no summer really!!!) and safety mainly.....what's Switzerland got???

A bit of friendly banter at work, and being able to crack a few jokes without it turning into a major diplomatic incident

I also miss dialup takeaways, calling up my favourite Indian or Thai on the way home from work when I really can't be bothered to cook. I know some restaurants here offer delivery, but you pay restaurant prices whereas I could order a starter, curry and bread and still get change out of a tenner....

OK so I retract my statement about the OP being answered by real men.

Heh im really lucky in that respect... because my company has such close ties with the UK the Swiss here were forced to get used to it. To be fair they are great guys anyway, but theres definately been an injection of UK humour into the place in the last couple of years.

Fried chicken shops and Chippies around every corner and some fantastic night life for sure...
