Re: English Market Stall in Bern.

Hi Rosey

To give you an idea; I run a light haulage /man and a van /removal etc delivery type business based in Central Scotland and I do monthly trips to France and inparticular Switzerland. The reason I am elaborating on what i do is that some of my customers, mostly ex pats, ask me to take over English provisions. This ranges from food and drink to furniture etc etc. Judging by the amount of things i get asked to take over you would be on to a winner here. Research would be important though as you will know. Good luck and if we can help further let me know, see moveurstuff.co.uk

Re: English Market Stall in Bern.

We have an English cheese stall in a market in Zurich. One main piece of advice.... do not target just ex-pats - sell quality British produce and you will get good Swiss customers. (If you are interested in selling cheese, PM me as we also wholesale and as yet don't have any customers in Bern)

Are you thinking of the regular weekly market on the Bärenplatz? There is a Mexican stall already and some other nationalities represented that seem to be doing rather well, it just depends on what you want to sell. I would agree with Grumpygrapefruit, there is a market out there, but you really will have to get quality products. That's why people here go to the market, to get something that is good and perhaps exotic.

Re: English Market Stall in Bern.

I agree with Starbug, the market is there. The Mexican place mentioned sells cooked food as well as packaged and dried Mexican foodstuffs at prices that are extremely high, even by Swiss standards, yet they still do a booming business. Although I'm an American, I've spent a fair amount of time in the UK and certainly have foods from the isles that I like. Many UK foods are available here in the high-end grocery stores like Loeb and Globus but a presence on the Waisenhausplatz a couple of times a week (and then online sales also) would definitely be a business I would patronize.

You can try the Bern Chamber of Commerce for info: http://www.bern-cci.ch/de/
German and French only.
