| | | Guitar players, musicians in Basel
OK its taken 3 weeks and I finally found out how to start a thread!!!!
Hi my name is Craigh. I moved here 3 weeks ago from South Africa. I don't work here but live with my girlfriend who does. Hopefully at some point I will find a way to get a visa to change this fact.
Looking to find anyone who wants to play guitar together as i need the practice and love playing. Not to fussy on what music we play as long as its not heavy classical stuff as i have NO idea on what to do there, I am not that quick at picking. I like rock, metal and anything with a guitar in it.
If anyone wants to play let me know.
Thanks for reading and if I have made any glaring errors please go easy on me :-)

Hey Craigh,
I'll be moving to Basel in early September, from Victoria, Canada (west coast).
My bass, and acoustic guitar, will be shipped so I won't have them for a while (I had to make a gut-wrenching choice between flying with my guitar or my bicycle).
But let's keep in touch because my wife (a singer) and I are both keen to get into the music scene in Basel.
Talk to you soon.

We're moving over early December (just had the offer yesterday, touch wood) and I'll bring a drummer who can also play the guitar. Just don't let him sing!
I'm tone deaf so maybe I could be the groupie and bring beer. |

I bought a guitar 30 years ago and started to learn to play but quit after a couple of months because I just got too busy with college, girls, and later, career. When I had some down time between assignments a bit over a year ago I pulled the old axe out of its case and started learning again.
Haven't been able to put it down since.
I'd be happy to participate if you know of a place that's noise-tolerant.
I'm strictly acoustic and enjoy most music from the 60s & 70s like Clapton, Neil Young, Led Z, etc... I also need to learn how to play with others without losing my train of thought.

haha sorry I didn't reply sooner but lost the use of a computer for a while.
Acoustic is cool. As to music friendly places, I didn't really consider this as I tend to play during day light hours. Our place should be fine but the proof is in the pudding I guess.

Considering that my guitars are in a container somewhere in the middle of Canada right now, I won't be able to actually jam until sometime in late November or early December.
But if you guys get together, just let me know. I'd still come out and chill, and I could heckle you.

Craigh,
I've played (and taught) the bass for nearly fourteen years, but I've been focused on acoustic guitar and harmonica (yay for Neil Young!).
My stuff is still in transit from Canada.
Anybody want to get together for drinks? No point in hauling out instruments if we don't get along (although it worked for Oasis for a while).

Hello, I'm new to the forum and haven't exactly figured it out yet, outstanding that I've made it this far. My name's Johnny and I've been living in der Schweiz for five and a half years. I live in Zeiningen which is about 20 minutes from Basel. I play the guitar and have looked for people to jam with since I've been here which has been very unfruitful. I am from the US where finding musician friends is as easy as finding drinking buddies. So, I was quite surprised to find such an closed society. Music rooms where hard to find, expensive when they where available and they had to be shared with as many as four other bands. Time schedules and taste often clashed so I pretty much gave up.
I lived in Basel at that time and after being in an apartment for year one the other tenants moved out and that freed up a basement room which my land-lady
let me turn into a small studio. I bought a small PA, a key board started collecting jam tracks learned how to use the computer for drum loops. Musically it's worked out but, aside from occasional visits to Liverpool, it's been kinda lonely and sometimes repetitious. Anyhow, that's a little bit about where I'm at.
I've got two guitars and a couple of amps, a yamaha psr 1500(key board), and 80 watt PA, a couple of mic.s, 4 channel mixing board and other musical stuff here and abouts. I love playing the blues-soul, funky, clean and a high gain hard edge, although I'm hip to all sorts of music - been around awhile.
I haven't played any Neil Young for years and I see one of you guys are into that - Right On! I just started teaching a Canadian guy the guitar. He's Swiss by birth but spent most of his life in Ontario.
I play rhythm and some lead and basically just looking for some folks to jam with - maybe write some stuff. Sorry about the long windy thread but I'm not all that savvy with these forums...Johnny E.

Hey Craigh
I have a 5pc Kit sitting here doing nothing because of noise restrictions. I'll be keen to lug it over to Basel sometime. Im not the best player but would be keen to have a go. Any idea on the music that's to be played?
