| | | Heavy steam Iron needed
Can anyone point me in the right direction with regards to a heavy steam iron for doing shirts at a reasonable price. I am not looking for one of those new fangled all in one systems, just a decent heavy steam iron.

do you mean a normal iron or one of those big ones that you fill with water in a separate unit? we bought a proper steam iron recently in MediaMarkt for 100CHf on offer, it's not the best on the market but it was cheap and it does the job. For doing shirts and stuff the proper steam irons i think are way better

All the ones I have seen so far are lightweight.

Brockenhaus? I got a modern, lightweight one there, couple of years back, but I remember they had plenty of horrid heavy old clunkers (no offense) to choose from as well.

Sorry for stating the obvious here, but if the Iron is too light, couldn't you just push down on it a little harder?

My iron broke today, though it is still under warranty. It is a Braun and just over a year old. It has been sent off for repair through Interdiscount so in the meantime I will have to use my very ancient Laura Star magic...still running after 10 years. I think that is the kind of thing you don't want (ironing system with a special board). But I have to say that ironing shirts with a basic steam iron is more work. If the shirts are damp, it will be easier but you will still need to keep filling the iron. What you might want to consider is the steam ironing systems that work with a basic ironing board. If you buy a basic steam iron, look for one with a built in anti calc system. Calc is the enemy to all appliances here. That is the advantage of the Laura Star system-no need to worry about calc. If I win a lottery, I will buy this. http://www.nettoshop.ch/product_info...-992007-p-4044

I'm used to my local Seattle drycleaner where my local dry cleaner used shirts as a loss leader, and a nicely pressed and starched shirt cost 99 cents - so cheap, if fact, I'd send here, at $5CHF, I'm not so keen to send the shirts out. While I can afford it, it just seems a bit excessive and past the minor pain point that I can do my own whilst doing something mindless like watching American telly. So, I've been looking at the irons and steam iron systems, and thinking of going back to my Navy days of pressing nice, crisp shirts.
From my cursory shopping thus far, it seems a decent steam iron system with the anti calc systems are around 300CHFs, and a decent regular iron is around 100CHFs. I realize this is all subjective, but can I get some more color commentary on the steam iron systems, it would be appreciated.
What do you have, how much pressure, do you like it? What do you wish you had spent that 300CHFs on instead?
Thanks.

I must share that I bought the orange 10chf Fust "sale" iron when I first got here 2 1/2 years ago. The ironing systems totally overwhelmed me as did the prices. I figured that once I knew a few people and could ask them what this fancy all-in-one systems would do, I might be prepared to fork out the $$$. But in all this time, my cheapo iron works just great! And I don't know what the heavy-weight will do but i can steam and press just like I did back home.
