| | | The EF Library is Open! The EF Library is open ! We currently have nearly 500 items available Books, CD's, Video Games and DVD's, VHS tapes will be added shortly. Joining is simple, just donate 2 items to the library and your in! to avoid any misuse there is a sliding scale of membership, top membership is Games, so donate at least 1 game and you get game membership, which also gets you access to all the levels below it, donate 2 books and you can only borrow books, donate at least 1 DVD and you have access to DVD's, CD's and Books etc. (larger donations will be on a case by case basis) 1. Games 2. DVD's 3. CD's 4. Books 2 Items gets you 1 library 'card', so you wont be able to borrow another item unless you return your current item (or make another donation) There are NO time limits on borrowed items, keep em as long as you want. You can either visit the library (address will be supplied to members via PM - near Zurich) or post your donations / returns and include a stamped addressed jiffy type bag - NO MONEY - it just complicates things!! Rules (well this is Switzerland) Donations must be in good condition! Check the list! Duplicates are accepted but wont count towards your membership! They must be original and complete (no downloads or copies) They must be in English - or in the case of games & dvd's, have an English option They must work!! - Games, dvd's, cd's etc will be tested before they are added to the library, so don't try to pull a fast one No freebie donations will count to your membership - eg a dvd given away by a national paper etc No misuse!! donating 2 mills and boon books wont get you a membership! use your common sense please!! Donations are final! don't expect to ever get it back!! so keep hold of that signed first ed of harry potter (I know nothing about books, so wouldn't know an expensive one from a mills and boon one, you have been warned!!) My decision is final! We have a couple of volunteers who can deliver / collect donations and returns etc, pm me for info Any donations welcome, new categories are welcome too, so things like blueray, hd dvd , also unused swiss postage stamps would be a great help!! We also have a couple of people keen to start a local library in there area, of course for this we need as much quality stock as possible.
Current stock list is here http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k...ldEY4bHc&hl=en its fairly basic at the moment but that will be changing soon, we have some fairly decent library management software to keep track of things. We find ourselves with too many books, so for a limited time you can join the book part of the library for free, and take out upto 3 books at a time, to qualify you must have been a member on here for over 1 month and have 10 'proper' posts, so don't go spamming away just to join up (like those muppets wanting to post for sale ad's) PM to join Now!! Can a mod make this a sticky please?

Some more info!
2 donatations gets you 1 'card', 1 'card'= 1 item from the library at a time
4 dontations gets you 2 'cards', 2 'cards' = 2 items at a time
etc etc
If you want to join the pm me your full name, postal address ,email address. and what dontations your making (with as much info on them as possible)
When you send in your dontations also include what you want to borrow from the library and include some reserves, it will be delt with on a first come first serve basis eg
I'd like
1. Aliens
2. Bill & Ted
3. T3
Of course if you have more then 1 'card' include more reserves and I'll send as many as possible.
Thanks

Just sent you a PM with my initial list. Fantastic job for getting this up so quickly and such a well thought out system.
By the way, a teeny suggestion:
some of us might have DVDs from home which might not be compatible for certain players here. For example, I use the PS3 for all my entertainment needs and realised that some DVDs added back home in my collection are not suitable. They've been collecting dust.
Will it be helpful to indicate the region code on the list as well?

Yep, so far all dvd's in the list are ZONE 2 (europe) except Near Dark which is Zone 1 (USA), I'll add an extra column indicating zone on them.
So be careful people, or unlock your dvd player
You can also still rip dvd's to your pc and remove the zoning using somthing like fairusewizard ( http://www.fairusewizard.com/) even if your pc's dvd drive is a different zone to the film.

I'll throw in a beer or two for helping me work that one out. |

Top work Bigblue, and lightening quick execution. Might I suggest hosting the spreadsheet on a cloud (e.g Google Docs).

Another quick clarification, this has nothing to do with the English Forum website ( www.englishforum.ch) , apart from them hosting the thread. Its purely a personal thing I have setup, I have no plans to leave switzerland, been here 4 years so far, but should we decide to leave the library and all its contents and data will be passed on to another volunteer on the condition it stays as non-profit and doesn't make any charges. (the costs on shipping back to the uk would be huge anyway lol)
All donations will be logged with the donators name, so should you want your items back it *may* be possible, I cannot of course guarantee this as the items may still be on loan, but you must donate in the clear understanding that they may be gone forever! and certainly wouldn't be in the same condition you sent it in at.
Thanks

PS3 games are not region encoded (any game purchased anywhere should work on any PS3) and I have noticed that most BluRay movies are not either. I have played a lot of US (Zone 1) BluRay discs (Troy, Cars and Corpse Bride are examples) on my Swiss (Zone 2) PS3.

hey BigBlue
great idea the library, may I make a suggestion? can I contribute only hard copies or music files too (MP3, MP4 et al.)? - 'cos i have about 19 thousand songs (no kidding ) on the hard drive that I'd be happy to share (remains of a similar experiment with a bunch of friends somewhere else) - unless of course is illegal - wouldn't dream of doing anything illegal now, would I? | | This user groans at walterguariento for this post: | | |
