We live in a flat in downtown Basel and would like to start composting. What options do we have for community composting programs? Can anyone provide links or information?

Apparently there are composting bins in Basel like the recycling centres but I've been collecting my compost for a month now and haven't found where to put it! Does anyone know where these bins are? Preferebly one near to Aeschenplatz?

We have a local compost group (Kompostgruppe) in our neighborhood in Kleinbasel. You have to become a member, and volunteer to help out at the compost place for an hour 1-2 times a year. You can bring your compost every Saturday morning, and in springtime you get earth for free.
From what I understand, there are different groups all over town. You could try mailing to kompostberatung@bs.ch, maybe they can tell you where you can find the nearest one. Good luck!

Head over to your nearest community garden allotments (you'll recognise them by the mini-village of garden sheds all tricked-up like midget holiday homes, the forest of flags flying proudly overhead and the infeasibly large pumpkins being cultivated in pursuit of the Switzerland's Hugest Vegetable Award) and ask there. If you can't find one near you, ask at your Gemeinde (Community) office.

With this advice, I was able to google more effectively (kompost instead of compost, duh!!) and found the Basel-Stadt compost site (I think?!). I emailed the contact there and asked for info on community composts in my area so we'll see what I get! Thanks again for all your help!
