| | | Re: Your favourite Swiss Building | Quote: | | | | | What a fantastic post, thank you! As a young architect only recently arrived in Switzerland, you have all given me such an incredible list of buildings to head out to see! | | | | | Hi Sharl,
Welcome to Switzerland and the forum.
I hope you get the chance to add a couple of great buildings to the list here too. Have fun.

The BIZ in Basel. | | | | | When I first saw this, it reminded me of the building below, by Aurelio Galfetti (who along with Mario Botta is a leading exponent of the "Ticino School" of architecture http://www.lausanne.ch/view.asp?docI...354&language=E ) .
The style is very recognisable.
The Ulysse Building, Chauderon crossroads, Lausanne. Built 1987.

He claimed that he was inspired by the city and California etc... etc... Complete BS. It is just another Botta. | | The following 2 users would like to thank for this useful post:

| | | Re: Your favourtie Swiss Building | Quote: | | | | | Yes, it is totally like Gaudi. http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamich...?from=ArtAvant
Those buildings were designed by Christian Hunziker. They are reasonably priced rental condos. I think the architect wanted to create a friendly environment and yes, he was inspired by the Smurfs/Schtroumpfs.
Has anyone visited any Rudolf Steiner buildings in Switzerland? I perceive some parallels between his buildings and Antonio Gaudi's. He's probably the closest to Antonio Gaudi in Switzerland.
I would be interested to visit one and sense what is like inside; particularly whether or not it is transcendental or metamorphing. |

The Goetheanum in Dornach? What a concrete monstruosity!
It fits pretty well in a Fritz Lang movie. I believe that it fits more or less in the Czech school of cubism. | | The following 2 users would like to thank for this useful post:

| | | Re: Your favourtie Swiss Building | Quote: | | | | | Ok, i know these are both technically cheating, but i think they are my faves.
The first is actually (only just) in Germany, but is Swiss Architect's Herzog and De Meuron's newest building. It's the Vitra House at Vitra headquarters in Basel. I visited 2 weeks ago and it looked like this.... (First Photo).
The second is not done by a Swiss Architect, but he does live in Zurich (as far as i know) so it was designed in Switzerland....
It's the library of the ETH University by the Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava and is breath-taking. I went last week for a look around and almost wet myself.
Those are my fave bits of Swiss Architecture so far. (Although my Architour of Switzerland is only in its infancy as i've only been here 3 weeks!)
I'm looking forward to seeing lots of the other buildings posted on here.
Good Post
-Laurie | | | | | The interior views are not in the ETH. It is the Law Library of Zurich University. Online virtual tour: http://www.ius.uzh.ch/static/virtuel...ng/start.html#
Calatrava was born in Spain (1951). He studied Engineering at the ETH in Zurich (1975-1979), where he also earned a Doctorate (1981).
Calatrava also architected Stadelhofen Station in Zurich http://www.greatbuildings.com/buildi...way_Stati.html | | This user would like to thank Goldtop for this useful post:

I like the curved doors and windows, also the non-perpendicular lines.. But what is the deal with those proportions? They look kinda.... menacing. Are those schools, churches, hospitals or what?

Worth visiting Zurich just to see it.

A beautiful thing.
