I love Art Deco, this is a great building.... All it needs is Kong Kong swinging from the top...

I think it's ugly- looks so Stalin-esque. This is how Art Deco buildings should look, complete with gargoyles

The Chrysler Building to me is one of the most beautiful buildings on earth. I struggled on my first visit to NY to find a good position to take a good photo.

I don't think the tour Bel Air is that ugly (also a lot of people in Lausanne do agree with you).
Yes it is a bit Stalinist. What I find cute is that they copied a Russian or American art deco skyscraper and they sized it to Switzerland.
It was quite the attraction when it opened. People came from all over Switzerland to see it.
It had a gorgeous movie theater, shops inside, and a restaurant on top.

ps: Love your Ebenalp pictures. It is on my list for the next visit.

I think it is more modernist than art deco really. That's why it doesn't have all Hoppy's gargoyles and other ornamentation. I have to say it is not one of my favourite buildings in Lausanne. I have been inside (for some French classes when I first arrived) and I can see its former grandeur. I'm sure it was beautiful in its day.

I prefer something like this from the same period as the Bel-Air Mètropole

I'm so glad someone mentioned Vals. I went over the summer and it was breathtaking! The outdoor bath with a view to the mountain was divine.
