How to lose 1 pound per week

I want to lose those 4 kilos left from the pregnancy. I think I'm doing very well. I lost 16 kilos since my baby is born 15 months ago.

With an average of 1 kilo per month, I know it's for a long term lost. I still have 4 kilos (Thanks to my MIL and her very good fatty food at New Year Eve who gave me back that 4th one)

I eat pretty well. Time to time I'll eat a cookie or 3. I can't eat chips anymore. I used to love it but since I stop everytime I eat it I taste the fat/oil in them...

I know I can do better with the quantity of water to drink. (I used to drink the 2 liters per day but lost the habit)

I have to cut on the cheese for sure! But in general I'm doing well.

I found this on internet, I though it might help some of you here who wants to lose weight without to much of effort.

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

Or you can just live on a hill like us There's a hike between me and the shops any anything I buy I have to carry home.

I counted 140 steps between my son's play group and home too - Tuesdays I do that twice before lunch carrying a 5 kg baby plus usually some shopping on the way back up. I certainly don't need a gym.

For loosing weight, I was in hospital during pregnancy on bed rest. 3 big meals a day - so I thought that i'd put on loads of weight. After 10 days I was lighter. The main difference to what I was eating at home was that there was no bread after breakfast. Snacks were fruits or yogurt and I couldn't get my hands on sweets. There's also seems to be some truth in the saying "skinny people don't skip breakfast". If I skip breakfast I end up eating some high calory convenience snack from the bakery and then need to eat more for lunch.

I cannot see me keeping that routine up for a month. I do most of the 'good' eating things anyway but although I religiously did all ten of the activities yesterday, I am too tired to do them all again this afternoon .

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

Cool thread, I want to get rid of 3 preggo kilos too, to get back to where I was. It is tricky with a kid, there are times that all you do is chasing after a little onethe whole day, so that's enough, but when the weather sucks, my creativity dries up. I do not really know how to burn calories, apart from sit ups and going to gym. My appartment will certainly welcome the hour of day housecleaning, haha. I wonder how much I will burn speed ironing with a heavy old Jura iron

What usually works for me is QUITTING gobbling down my kiddo's leftovers, quitting drinking pop and downsizing the meals. Gym is good, though, I am hooked on the eliptical. It neetly tucks in anything in the belly area, it was the best postbaby thing to do. I did 2 years of pilates after the baby was born and it did nothing for me. Fast pace gym machine is my best buddie.

Check out this book about breaking habits you do on a daily basis as a way of being more conscious of what you are actually doing rather than performing the same routines on daily 'cruise control':

Yeah I noticed that too! After I stopped eating chips I can't eat them anymore but that's a good thing. I try to drink a lot of water too, it's good for you in so many ways. Good post.

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

I lost the nine remaining pregnancy kg in three months. I used the free online resource http://www.sparkpeople.com
It's a great site and an absolutely healthy way to lose weight. They encourage calorie counting (not starving yourself!), cardio 3x week and strength training 2-3x a week. It worked beautifully for me, I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight now.

Well in that case Nil have one. If you deny yourself you will hanker even more for one.
I lost 28lbs 5 years ago and have kept it off. I do not deny myself ANYTHING but if I fancy a chocolate I will have one - but just one.
Portion size is so important and you can cook most foods - but in a healthy way.
As previously quoted breakfast is sooooo important. I have a huge one and it does stop cravings and remember, that if you do not eat much your metabolism slows down so you do not lose the weight so then you eat less and it is a vicious circle.

Yeah I agree, I prefer to eat breakfast and dinner, that works best for me, and starving yourself does slow a person's metabolism that's why crash diets are only temporary, the best and most long term way to lose weight is gradually, the same way most people put it on in the first place. Most people don't gain 30 pounds in 2 or 3 weeks so why try to lose it like that? The body is much healtheir and adjusts better when it's lost gradually. Also going up and down drastically like that is not good either like losing 30 pounds in 2 weeks then gaining it all back in 3 weeks then losing it again. That will mess up the body's system. Gradual and longterm is best. I think I read somewhere that losing around 5 pounds a month is a good pace, so that equals out to a pound a week so this thread is on track with that. That's the best way.

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

1 lb a week = 3500 k/cal a week.

You need to reduce your intake by 500 calories a day, either through diet, exercise, or both.

20 minutes of strenuous exercise a day plus eliminating a latte each morning will do it.

In the same way that little changes can easily add on the pounds, little changes can help take them off.

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

I will lose another... 1kg, over time, as yesterday I decided to cut out the large glass of milk, sure.. it was low fat to begin with but I'm talking calories here, in my breakfast (porridge). Replaced it with water.

I lost plenty by changing breakfast from shop bought cereals (20%+ sugars and the same in fats) to rolled oats.

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

I know many people who had success with this. (link is in English)
http://www.rohner-konzept.ch/dom/5/I...tion/index.htm

It was developed by a doctor in Switzerland. Now many doctors here can do the testing. It is not covered by health insurance, as far as I know.

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

I dropped 10lbs and 1.5 inches around my waist so far since the beginning of Dec by eating a net of 1500 calories a day. I tracked everything I eat and worked out. I also spent 20 minutes on the exercise bike three times a week which burned about 180 calories leaving me a bit more to eat for dinner ;-)

At the end of the day there is no magic bullet to losing weight but the good news is that there is no magic at all. Just eat less calories than you burn. Honestly, eat 3500 less calories than you burn over a given time frame and you will lose 1lb.

You can check an estimate of your basal metabolic rate here:

http://health.discovery.com/tools/ca...sal/basal.html

You can see different activities and what they burn here:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/exercise/SM00109

If you have an iphone, Shape up will let you track your calories and progress. If not, type in calorie counting in google and pick any of the million sites there that have the info and allow you to track your progress.

Don't weigh yourself daily as water retention is all you will track. Take measurements such as body fat percentage or waist line measurements at the beginning to see your progress. Take the waist, arm, and leg measurements somewhere that you can easily replicate. I made the mistake of having someone else do it and now every measurement is a guesstimate as to where we did it the last time ;-)

Lift weights... I know it seems counterproductive to losing weight but here is the interesting part. Muscle burns more calories than fat. So if you look at it this way, having more muscle mass on you is like your salary where doing cardio is more like a bonus. If you build a good base of muscle you will burn more calories constantly.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I did that and since may, I lost 6 cm on my bust, waist and hip. And 2 cm around my knees, arms. It feels good!

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

Dieting is a load of rubbish because as soon as you stop, you slide back to your original starting point.

To lose weight, you have to modify your eating habits, eat less and exercise a little. At the start the modifications are quite strict, but once you have reached your target weight you need to keep it there and to do this, the modifications remain in place although they can be stretched from time to time. The amount of stretching is for you and you alone to decide.

Lay off the booze too !

i dont eat anything of the stuff you have mentioned. little man...what now?

all i can say is: reduce meat (pork, beef) sweets and sugar.
skip/stop eating white toast and bread/bürlis. eat whole wheat bread/toast/bürlis. take low fat milk instead of cream or milk with higher %age of fat for your coffee and so on and on and on...

go for vegetables, chicken, fish, fruits (pineapple), salads. have a soup and a slice of bread for lunch with a salad (no dressing based on cream or mayonaise!). and do a sport 2-4 times a week!!!!

yeah... its hardcore to reduce beer and i cant do it. yes, evry now and then i have latte machiato with smooth cream topping. but if you keep up sport regularly...the pounds tumble down! nd those little sins are forgiven.

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

Try the student diet: You can eat anything you want, but you can't spend more than 30 Franks a week on food. That cuts meat, bread, and snackies straight out, leaving lots of veg and lentils. Yum.

Plus, no trams. Too expensive. Walk or bike wherever you need to go.

I lived on this diet for my first two years in Switzerland. I had one English student who would pay me 30 Franks cash. When the 30 Franks were up I couldn't buy any more food, so I developed some good habits to make it last.

Re: How to lose 1 pound per week

I told a guy at a party my dieting tip and and he started laughing. I told him that I could put whatever I liked in my mouth, but the trick was not to swallow.

I can only lose weight by working out. Tonight I thought that it was time to get back and add real boxing to my kickboxing class. So here's what happened: (I haven't done any boxing for about one year.)

The other two ladies were very fit and practiced in the art of boxing. One looked as if she was working towards Miss Muscle Universe-chiseled jaw. She also learns Kenpo in her friend's basement. The other smaller looking woman was wicked fast, knocking out what seemed like 10 punches per second in combination. I felt pretty stupid- we had done the boxing drill and I was already beginning to feel my abs, I had problems remembering the number punching combinations and I did not have the breathing down. However I guess that I can still pack a punch as the other women asked, "Doesn't that hurt you? Don't you feel it in your wrists or knuckles" I just stared blankly and said "No" in a kind of 'no sense, no feeling' way.

After the drills the teacher was saying something about partner sit ups with the medicine ball, but I didn't think that he meant me, even though at that point there was only me and one other woman left in the room. I was kind of spaced out, so I stayed sitting, assuming that they were having a private conversation.
Then I realized that he was addressing me. He asked me if I could stand. I shrugged my shoulders and stood up proudly saying " Yess!" and thinking 'Geee that was easy, this guy really doesn't expect much from me. Standing I can do!'

He looked at me a bit perplexed and then said "No, stand over here on her feet." At that point I realized that I had been oblivious to the fact that my partner was in the sit-up position holding the medicine ball. So feeling a bit embarrassed I said " Oh, Oh yes!" and quickly jumped on to both her feet.. my feet are pretty big. He looked at me as if I was nuts, he bent down and looked at my feet, I looked at my feet, hers could not be seen, I had covered her feet almost up to the ankles. I stayed in position and then he and I looked back at each other. He said "Not that much, that can hurt." I looked down and she was wincing. I still stayed there, (well that's what he told me to do) until he said "Move your feet back, just secure her toes", at which point I said " Oh, right". and moved my feet back.

I guess that you could say I made a good first impression- at least on her feet.

Oh well, kickboxing tomorrow!
