Ten Reasons to Leave America for Switzerland

People have been asking me whether they should leave America for CH.

Having been to the US for a couple of business trips on a plane, I feel suitably qualified to answer them, so here's my starting list:

1. Top Quality Healthcare
2. lower crime
3. Dont get involved in wars
4. Basel is better on a wednesday afternoon than Winsconsin on a friday lunchtime.
5. Its quieter and peaceful
6. Social Responsibility to everyone.
7. Everyone is minted!
8. Its in the middle of Europe.
9. The public services are top notch.
10. People are polite.

Anyone else want to put their's together ?

Re: Ten Reasons to Leave America for Switzerland

1. Direct democracy
2. No homeschooling
3. Less fear installed in kids
4. Fewer crazys
5. Good transportation used by everyone
6. Shorter lines at banks and post offices
7. People exercise outside of the gym
8. Easier to choose what kind of cereal to buy
9. Skilled labour is highly respected
10. Less pressure on kids to attend universities (unfortunately, this is changing a bit)

Looking forward to other responses!

Re: Ten Reasons to Leave America for Switzerland

1. Great public transport
2. Great quality of roads and sidewalks (based on Chicago)
3. Generally higher quality of air
4. Waaaay higher quality of housing (materials, workmanship, energy efficiency)
5. Located between interesting neighbouring countries surrounding it (Canada is great as well)
6. Lower taxes
7. More pleasant winters (comparing to Chicago)
8. Lesser avaliability of junk food establishments
9. Diversity of media outlets avaliable
10. Trust one receives from service/product providers (invoice on invoice at your leisure still amazes me)

Re: Ten Reasons to Leave America for Switzerland

hahaha. i think my experience of the u.s must be tainted.
then again i'm not familiar with wisconsin on a friday, but riverside park on a sunday afternoon. hmmm... maybe it's the time for the after holiday blues.
i was just getting a bit nostalgic and wishing to go back.

I haven't notice that one too much.

There are many other benefits though.

People have been asking me whether they should leave America for CH.

Having been to the US for a couple of business trips on a plane, I feel suitably qualified to answer them, so here's my starting list:

1. Top Quality Healthcare Debateable, If you are part of the majority in America that do have healthcare, it is probably better than here.
2. lower crime Where I lived in America, the crime rate was lower.
3. Dont get involved in wars Just turn a blind eye and don't get involved no matter what happens. If you handle the banking services for the bad guys, you can make a lot of money too!
4. Basel is better on a wednesday afternoon than Winsconsin on a friday lunchtime. But a friday night in Madison Wisconsin is better than any night in the entire history of Basel.
5. Its quieter and peaceful Like life on lithium.
6. Social Responsibility to everyone Digress in any way, and the authorities will be promptly notified. Don't you dare flush that toilet after 2200!.
7. Everyone is minted! I am not sure what you mean by minted? Homosexuality is not a lifestyle choice suitable for everyone.
8. Its in the middle of Europe Cool for a couple of years, but after that this counts against CH.
9. The public services are top notch Yet not a single clean public toilet in the entire country.
10. People are polite Except for the Swiss, and their surrounding neighbors.

Anyone else want to put their's together ?
Just kidding people! I just thought Mike's post was pretty funny.
I am curious though Mike, did you spend your entire vacation in Detroit? And if you did, why did you go back on your second trip?

Oh no I don't agree. There was this one day / evening when Holland was playing Russia in the European Championship Soccer 2 years ago. The newspapers said it was the biggest party in Basel's 1700 year history.

I was there and it was great

Ellie, are you longing to go back to the States? Reading your post made me feel as if you've never really felt at home in Switzerland.

Re: Ten Reasons to Leave America for Switzerland

Swiss people don't "feel at home". Instead they "structure a debt repayment plan in order to purchase a property in which they'll live".

Re: Ten Reasons to Leave America for Switzerland

I started making a list to reply to this - and realized that the opposite list (reasons to live in America instead of CH) was growing much faster.

Maybe I'm not as downsettled here as I thought... or maybe I've just got the rose-tinted glasses on again. Anyway, think I'll stop now before I get any more homesick.

Re: Ten Reasons to Leave America for Switzerland

How about advantages in the US.
1- Supermarkets open 24/7.
2- Almost no parking problem in most places.
3- Easy to find accommodations (house - apartment).
4- Gas is cheaper.
5- Huge shoppoing malls.
6- No autobahn fee for cars (in most freeways).
7- 7/11 store in every corner.
8- Being served in restaurants really fast.
9- Free coffee refill.
10- AMERICAN FOOTBALL.

I've only been to Florida to visit "family" once but I must say...that's not coffee you're drinking. I'd also give away hot brown crap for free.

1. I feel much thinner in the States
2. People are usually nicer... and then forget you forever
3. People don't stay longer than 1 hour at your house
4. Potluck is the norm
5. Mistakes are a part of life
6. It's cool to be a Christian
7. Schools offer lunches!
8. Fast food is soooo much cheaper
9. No one talks about politics (cuz it gets too emotional)
10. People really donate food and time

True...but at that very moment when they offer free refill, it feels good.

It's true, if you're interested in a hotdog, burger, milkshake or the only proper Dr Pepper left, the USA is the place.
