I too was heading for cover. Just moved over in November and I knew nothing about this today! Thought that we were under attack.....coming for Northern Ireland I am a little jumpy!!!!

Ja, I know, a bit late to plug into EF to find out .... But today, when that siren went off, my grandkids, home for lunch, dashed down the stairs to ask "Hey Gran, is that serious or not?"

I had no idea.

Asked the grandson to go check with the Swissy neighbor if it`s for real or not. His answer? "Hey, I`ve got tennis practice, and I`m late ...... when I come back, if the village doesn`t exist I`ll know it was for real" and off he went to tennis. The other grandkid had a "termine" with a friend and no time to worry about being bombed!

I only relaxed when my son returned my phone call asking about it, and to confirm it was the anual testing. Juslaaaikk, but I thought I`d kept up with the news?!

There were no air-raid-drills in school here, but our teacher(ess) gave rather lengthy explanations, the newspapers reported what people had to buy as emergency-basis, and the authorities started to implement a far-reaching program of establishing air-raid-shelters in every house, which meant that the cellars were re-built and the doors replaced by heavy metal doors.

your cellar is the bunker ! In all houses built before 1962, the cellars were renovated within a few years. The rules were gradually relaxed over the years

So what happened to the sirens then? We had total silence in my part of the Valais, and nothing sounded in Geneva either!
