Thank you so much for posting this, for some reason I cannot do "thanks now"!
Brings me back to my college days in the mid western part of the US where on Monday afternoons was tornado warning testing...

Surely this would be one of the first locations targeted in case of an actual raid?
How absurd to have an actual raid on the day they test the alarms.

Or is it?

Only the paranoid need reply.

As usual, didn't hear a thing here. I'm at the airport. Surely this would be one of the first locations targeted in case of an actual raid?
I guess Basel/Mulhouse Airport would fall under the French emergency schemes - the ones at ZRH work just fine, it's right outside my window..

there was even a thread about it on the EF...yesterday I believe.
It was informative instead of trashy and gossipy and therefore I missed it.

....seriously. what time yesterday? I must have been doing something productive.

Thanks for giving me the ideal alibi...

So it's just a warning then? So I can remove the duct tape from my window panes?
Good lord that was 9 years ago already...

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/...in539626.shtml

Many of these steps are worth taking to prepare for natural disasters, as well, officials said.

This includes stashing a three-day supply of water, food and medicine, Ridge said. Among other things, the government-recommended "kit" also includes duct tape and plastic sheeting Ridge said could be used to seal off a room in the event of a chemical or biological release.

I was literally in Bahnhofstrasse (Zurich) when they went off, I started to look for the very loud brass band until I realized there was none.

Re: Wednesday [1.2.2012] is Switzerland's Siren test day - do not get scared ;-)

Ja, I know, a bit late to plug into EF to find out .... But today, when that siren went off, my grandkids, home for lunch, dashed down the stairs to ask "Hey Gran, is that serious or not?"

I had no idea.

Asked the grandson to go check with the Swissy neighbor if it`s for real or not. His answer? "Hey, I`ve got tennis practice, and I`m late ...... when I come back, if the village doesn`t exist I`ll know it was for real" and off he went to tennis. The other grandkid had a "termine" with a friend and no time to worry about being bombed!

I only relaxed when my son returned my phone call asking about it, and to confirm it was the anual testing. Juslaaaikk, but I thought I`d kept up with the news?!

Can't be as bad as the speakers at Kreuzplatz that announce transit issues. Completely sound like Nazi prison camp announcements. Muffled and staticy just like in the movies.
But I doubt that the Nazi Prison Camp announcers thanked people "for their understanding"

aw sh*t, October '62 ( showing my age ) we were having air raid drills in school every 3 minutes... duck and cover.
There were no air-raid-drills in school here, but our teacher(ess) gave rather lengthy explanations, the newspapers reported what people had to buy as emergency-basis, and the authorities started to implement a far-reaching program of establishing air-raid-shelters in every house, which meant that the cellars were re-built and the doors replaced by heavy metal doors.

Our house was built in 1587- where is the bunker?
your cellar is the bunker ! In all houses built before 1962, the cellars were renovated within a few years. The rules were gradually relaxed over the years

So what happened to the sirens then? We had total silence in my part of the Valais, and nothing sounded in Geneva either!

Really wish I'd known this before Wednesday, so I didn't have to frantically look for the key to the cave & the bunker!!!
