Forecast is for about 10cms Friday thru to Saturday. Wouldn't trust the conditions until the temps remain below zero for at least a week thereafter. I had to cancel the EF snow shoe trek Sunday because of severe avalanche risk. As Ziger pointed out to me, there was an avalanche up on the Schilt, GL last Thursday exactly where we had been 2 weeks earlier. Be careful out there folks.

Jokes aside, the wording that describes the risk level has a very specific meaning, severe is not used, but if I heard the word severe I would equate it to very high which has a completely different meaning to considerable.
I still think if you are in an area where there is the potential to be an avalanche (as evidenced by an avalanche there in the past) then you should be carrying transciever, shovel and probe even if the risk is only "moderate".

Temperatures have dropped to 1C here in Lucerne compared to yesterday's relatively warm day & no sun but that big cloud has rounded us so no chance of a new layer yet
