You had a dump in the mountains Natasha?

I'm sorely tempted to groan you for that
Okay, may be this'll make you press the button. I had a meeting in Morges this afternoon. Driving down the autoroute I had to switch on the aircon. It was so nice we sat outside on the terrace of the Casino bar and enjoyed a cold beer in the warm sunshine.

Seems the barrière de rosti is more than a language border. Temperatures up into the mid teens down here, maybe closer to 20 degrees in the lower Valais. Sunny and set fair till the weekend!
Spring generally arrives 5 to 20 days earlier in the Lake of Geneva region. But this does not necessarily apply to Fribourg, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Le Locle or La Brévine !

It just snowed big sized flakes near Luzern. Shorts on standby.
Here it in the morning was just raining

I groaned you 'cos I'd just got back from the stable, fighting my way though half a metre of snow and trying to control 2 Rottis who were enjoying it far more than me.

I removed the groan because I have since had a lovely Shephards Pie and a glass or 2 of something warming.

No $hit! Since I last logged on, I also had a few glasses of something warming - a 2003 Cabernet from the village of Leytron in the Valais. It's made made by my neighbour. It was from his last case of the 2003 and I have three bottles left. I can't stand the thought of a fellow Yorkshireman in distress so one of those bottles now has your name on it.

And I think that what a fellow Yorkshireman needs with that wine is a decent slice of Wensleydale, or better still, Swaledale Ewe. Your name is on a slice of each.

It's the middle of March; it's time to sit back, and (as a skier ) relax, listen
to everyone agreeing that, yes, Spring is here, safe in the knowledge that
we have at least two major dumps between now and Proper Spring.
And the thing to hope for is that these dumps will last for a good few days, rather than melt off the next day with sun and 7º.

My experience so far: the conditions are really good just after it's been snowing and if it's still freezing.

And thus to enjoy a bit more of the remains of the season (and to rest from some long days at work) I'm taking a day off and heading to Flumserberg tomorrow, if anyone fancies joining for the same.

Luzern today: Birds singing, people laughing, kids playing outside, the dog not bringing in half of the garden & the sound (that sound) of Spring when everything sounds louder. Here now 13deg & no need for a jacket...

It is too early to pack away the cold weather gear. It will snow again before Easter for sure.

Re: Anyone reckon there'll be more snow?

You obviously haven't looked up the rules to see what kind of permit the poles are given.

All 'road marking' stakes have a 'Saisonnier' Permit which only allows them to stay a maximum of nine months (heaven forbid that we should need them for so long), after which they are sent home. They can renew their permit in autumn for the next season.

Could one of the Mods please move these posts to the 'Permits' Forum. Some old stick-in-the-mud might need the information sometime.

That's why you have your job Mrs byt, to prick the concious of mere mortals such as I.

I have to confess I have not researched further into the plight of these poor poles or their permit validity, as I may in fact be suffering from PTSD after I got too distressed watching them mercilessly grabbed and tossed into a truck... I can still hear the screams... which is pretty good for a deaf guy

Watching the 2 lady joggers in spandex is however easing my pain.

Re: Anyone reckon there'll be more snow?

Looking at the NOAA northatlantic synopsis I would say that there will be at least a bit more snow in the next two weeks, maybe not in the valleys, but higher up.
