Bad Food Poisoning -- Looking for Gatorade?

Does anyone sell Gatorade in Zurich? I have been to Coop and Migro and cannot find it or anything similar. Husband became violently ill last night with food poisoning from a local place and he needs something similar to Gatorade to re-hydrate...any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Powerade is sold everywhere...also go to the baby section, where they have this thing for babies when they throw up with plenty of electrolytes...that should help him.

When my wife was taken with food poisoning in Paris, the doctor suggested that warm flat cola was ideal for rehydration and for settling the stomach. Worked fine.

I guess you have tried a chemist? They have powers and stuff to mix with water (at least they do in Australia and I imagine they would here) that are apparently better than Powerade or Gatorade.. dont taste fabulous though..

Yes also I was once told by a doctor that cola is good because it has food acid in it or something.. one of the boys on my school camp got food poisoning and was told only to drink cola as it would help settle his stomach..

***only = no other soft drinks. Im sure water or something like that would have been fine

Phosphoric acid. Which is used as an anti-nausea agent in over-the-counter medications, which probably cost a lot more!

Here's a quick home made electrolyte recipe.

1 teaspoon salt, 8 teaspoons sugar. Mix well into one liter water.
Hope your hubby recovers soon.

ps: Squeeze in some fresh lime or lemon to help it go down...

Re: Bad Food Poisoning -- Looking for Gatorade?

If you have a gas station anywhere near where you live they usually have both Gatorade and Powerade (same thing just cheaper).

Personally I think drinking that stuff would make me

Thanks for all the feedback. I have not seen Powerade anywhere either. I will check out a gas station close by.

Thanks!

I'll go with the coke suggestions, too.

BTW, it might not be food poisoning - there's a puking/pebbledashing thing going round at the moment, which looks, feels, tastes and smells exactly like food poisoning.

I can personally vouch for each and every aspect of that description...

Any Service station has Gatorade or if you really can't find any, try a Fitness center

Ok I found Gatorade at a gas station. Then went to Coop City at Bellevue and they had it there also. Thanks again!

Weak black tea with a bit of sugar. The tanins settle the stomach, plus it's more palatable than expensive Brand drinks. Why pay ridiculous prices to rehydrate when there's water on tap? Small amounts often, rather than gulping glass loads. Once the mood returns, some plain yoghurt with honey or dry bread. There are different electrolyte drinks and powders for different conditions. Consult a pharmacist.

Re: Bad Food Poisoning -- Looking for Gatorade?

Hi,

Opening up this discussion again. I've looked in Migros and Coop for Gatorade and have found Mandarine flavor. But what I'd really like to find is the Lemon Lime flavor.

Does anyone know if/where Lemon Lime Gatorade is available?

Thanks for your help,

You can usually find more flavors at the local gas stations and also the Bellevue Coop City sells 3 different flavors, not sure if it has lemon-lime or not.

Re: Bad Food Poisoning -- Looking for Gatorade?

If you go through the main train station, I think the lolly shop has gatorade. Powerade is at Denner.

And to repeat what DB said, there's a *shocking* stomach flu going around Zurich at the moment. I had it about two weeks ago - 12 hours of feeling like I was going to die. Told the doctor I worked with kids, so probably caught it off the kids, doctor replied "Oh, someone probably sneeze on you at Migros".... Gee thanks

It's not about hydrating the body but replenishing the electrolytes one looses when throwing up, excessively sweating or with diarrhea.
