I went skiing (cross-country) in Gstaad last year, and my cellphone fell out of my pocket. Someone found it and returned it to the ski lift booth. Before I found my phone though, I cut my finger when I fell, and I also needed internet so I could call my friends (didn't have their numbers memorized). I went to the train station, where the salesperson gave me a band-aid and told me which hotel to go to for internet access. The person who found the phone called my recent numbers and told my friends where the phone was, so soon my phone and I were reunited.

Wow, no Swiss having done anything good to an EF member in more than half a year. This country is going down the drain.

Not knowing the french word for pine nuts, the french-only speaking sales assistant took me to 3 of her colleagues (to find one who speaks english or german) and led me though half of the supermarket before we found the 'pignons'. All of this happened 15 minutes before closing time. |

Despite all the complaints on here about living here this thread is a breath of fresh air, I reckon the swiss people are great too never had an issue, always helpful and love their cultural views.

I was recently in france skiing and a ski boot needed some repair. We went to every ski shop in the resort looking for the part and they all said no, they couldn't help. It was 6-8 shops.
I came back to Switzerland, took the boot into my local Stöckli and they repaired it within 24 hours free of charge. Now that's class.

I lost my wallet about two months ago. I immediately blocked my bank card and didn't think about it again. I then received a letter from the Coop Supercard people saying a lady had found it and gave me her number. I called her and she said that she had sent it to my bank, I then got a letter from the bank manager asking me to call him. I called and am going to pick it up on Monday. I don't know if any money shall still be in and can't really remember how much was in it...

Last year on a saturday afternoon, I were so in a hurry to goto manor to buy some stuff, it was the end of the day, shops are closing & everywhere is crowded, I just parked my car in a hurry in plain street & forgot to close the window of the car, with my laptop bag on the side seat & iphone beside, after my return to the car, there was this guy standing beside the car drinking coffee, he told me he saw the window open, checked the parking grill & realised that I'll be returning within 15 min (assuming I respect the parking time), so he decided to guard it till I'm back, I invited him to a drink, we had a chat & he was absolutely great guy.
That's an absolute great thing about Switzerland, it's so safe. | | | | | 1 in 27 apartments in Zurich on average get broken into? Safe?

Here in this house, there are 22 apartments and the only break-in was into one cellar, but there was not break-in into any of the real apartments
And this is an area which crime-wise is fairly ill-reputed

I have lived in a few countries and the one thing that has been common to all of them - without exception - is that people are genuinely warm, caring and considerate. There are many stories I could write about different places, but here are a few...
Norway: I went shopping in a city 60 kms away from where I lived, a newcomer to the country, and I ran out of money. So the shopkeeper asked for my address - without any proof - and said I could take the goods and he will mail me the bill. Absolute trust in another human being to do the right thing.
Switzerland: I was driving back from Gstaad and my son threw up in the back of the car. We stopped by the side of the road and a couple came out of their chalet, invited us in to clean up our son. Wonderful couple.
UAE: While driving I had a puncture and I parked on the side of the road. A car stopped by with three young Emiratis. They proceeded to jack the car up and change the tire. Once they had finished, barely waiting for me to express my gratitude, they said goodbye and left. That one still surprises me to this day.
Scotland: While out celebrating Hogmanay in Edinburgh, I got separated from my friends and got lost. I met some people and started chatting to them. On New Year's Day, at 3 am in the morning, they took the trouble to find out where my friends lived from my vague recollections and took me there.
The world is full of wonderful people.

Just don't know how to say this - but somehow what goes around comes around. Your own attitude and behaviour so often influences what happens around you.

Once I left my wallet in the tram. I have got it back from the "Fundburo" next morning. All cash was in. This quite surprised me.

Last summer, myself and a few colleagues went to a pizza place ia couple villages over. I went to pay with my card, and the man's machine was broken. With a smile, he just told us to come back and pay tomorrow.
It's amazing what can happen when everyon is honest.
