I just got back from Lithuania, where I visited three institutions. One was the orphanage for infants and toddlers and they host 65 kids there. I met some kids on the playground. The caregivers were very thankful for all the clothes, toys and ect. Poor kids were adorable. I learnt that some of them still have parents who were visiting them once in a while. the next orphanage I visited was an institution for older kids. ( age 4 to 16). All kids were gone to the camp since it is summer. The person working there accepted the items and asked me to thank all the great people out here. The last institution was called Generation Home ( http://www.kartunamai.lt/en ) they host people of all ages. They had some teen mothers there with few babies and even few toddlers. I gave some things to them and chatted up the moms. They stay there about 1,5 years. Usually mothers who are pregnant but have nowhere to go, are there, also women hiding from abusive husbands. I have not photographed a lot as I felt that was intrusive and it was rather uncomfortable. Overall, I am so pleased that this mission was successful and I was able to deliver things donated by many super great people of our yahoo group. Thank you all very much!

Damn! Why didn't I see this sooner I have loads of clothes and toys sitting at home that I would have happily donated.

Hopefully adding my name to the thread will mean I'll spot it if you do a repeat trip next year.

Also, sending via post 'gifts' to charities in Africa can be extremely problematic - the customs/duty on your gift might be more than the value of the item to the organisation....best to make real connections with people first...

Yes, these donations go strait to the kids homes.

Thank you all for replies, but we did this last June when I was able to transport items. After the month of June, I have not been collecting anything as I have no way of transporting things at this time. I do appreciate your interest.
