Grocery Stores in France Close to Basel

Hello,

I'm sure this has been reviewed before, I apologize.

We do not have a car, so Leymen & St. Louis look to be the most easy towns to access for shopping. (By tram).

What grocery stores are there? Are they easy to find?

How much can we bring back without being taxed at customs? We plan on going once a week for 7 days worth of food for 2 people.

Thank-you everyone!

We go often to France, to St-Gingolph or Lugrin, to buy food. The shops post the customs limits. Page 89 of the following Ordonnance 916.01 lists the duty-free franchise for each kind of agricultural product per person: http://www.admin.ch/ch/f/rs/9/916.01.fr.pdf The list is repeated in more user-friendly form here: http://www.ezv.admin.ch/zollinfo_pri...x.html?lang=fr There is also a monetary limit, CHF 300: http://www.efd.admin.ch/dokumentatio...x.html?lang=fr

This site suggests that there is reasonable shopping at St-Louis: http://www.qype.fr/fr422-st-louis/ca...on-in-st-louis

Here's a forum where shopping across the border in France is discussed: http://www.bebe.ch/drupal/node/145912

Does it have to be France? There's options in Germany also.

Re: Grocery Stores in France Close to Basel

Very good thread on this topic here: Basel Cross-border shopping by Public Transportation

Also, if you don't have a car, consider car-sharing (the more adults you have in the car the more booze and meat you can bring back) or mobility.

Happy shopping!

Re: Grocery Stores in France Close to Basel

There is a Geant Casino in St Louis but I find it more convenient to shop in Weil am Rhein if I am going to shop outside Basel.
