I know I definitely am! | | | | | I always do. I for some months tolerated one on the balcony in various positions, but when the fat spider went ahead to occupy the balcony I gently pushed her overboard. She is now "working" just below my balcony on the outside and must by now be some kilos fat ! I tought her my rules of "peaceful coexistance" | | This user would like to thank Wollishofener for this useful post: | |

The hobo spider is native to Europe, where it is a resident of fields, rarely entering human habitations due to the presence of major competitors, particularly the giant house spider (Tegenaria duellica) which is a common resident of houses and other man-made structures in Europe. As a result human contacts with the hobo spider are uncommon in Europe. | | | | | I dont care! That thing wouldnt survive 5 seconds in my house.
Only certain humans and 4 legged living things that go "woof" do.

| | | big ugly spider in my room
Being an Aussie I have good reason to fear and despise spiders. I use Sky's approach (a glass over the top, cardboard underneath, put them outside); except I put the glass on, plus an ice cream container so I can't see it, and pretend it's not there, for hours, days, weeks until someone else moves it - husband, kids, cleaner, visitors - don't mind really. I can't kill them because a) I squashed one when I was a kid and a million little spiders crawled all over me from out of it and b) my husband vacuumed one once (equally afraid) and i had to throw the whole vacuum away, in someone else's rubbish, as i feared it would have babies inside and c) a whole can of Baygon sprayed on one little spider makes a mess, doesn't make me feel better, and may just kill the kids....
I have lots of stories about real spiders in Oz, which I'll spare you (off topic) but nobody died. Here there seems to be just the main big black harmless ones. I am told by Swiss that if you have a lot of spiders, it means your house is healthy. What? Something to do with humidity? Warmth? No idea, but I'd rather be unhealthy than deal with the near heart attack I have each time I see one.
Well anyway, one day we saw a different spider. Completely. In my youngest kids room. Mother instinct overrides total fear (isn't that interesting?) and i got it off the wall, into a glass and outside (a feat that my Australian relatives would never consider me capable of) but only after a lot of convincing of self. Next day the paper ran an article re invasion of foreign spiders - and we all swear the picture of the Black Widow was the one! - imported from the US or somewhere .....in my kids room! And I let it go outside! And spiders like to come inside because ... why? What are we doing wrong?

| | | Re: big ugly spider in my room | Quote: | | | | | Some advice.. Don't be afraid cause they can sense it... I'm serious! My husband is a huge arachnophobic and they always gravitate towards him. ... | | | | | It's not because they want to freak your husband out, they just want to be loved, so they're trying to show how friendly and harmless they are.
From the original photo, it looks like a giant house spider. It's a bit hairier than than a domestic house spider. They're great creatures to have living in your house as they really will reduce the number of mosquitos and other nasty biting insects.
Harmless, but could bite if picked up, so glass and card is the best method, if you have to remove it. There's no point in taking it just outside though, as it will quickly work its way back in.

| | | Re: big ugly spider in my room | Quote: | | | | | Hi all,
I shifted in my new apartment 2 months ago. I dont have any furniture and its quite clean. all my windows were closed for some time.. only 1 was open had a net installed on it, still it managed to come inside.
well its dead now .. after i took pics | | | | | .... are you sure it 'came inside?'
What happened to the last tennant?
Ha Ha.... as a rule, the bigger they are, the less poisonous they are.
Spiders still scare me when they are bigger than the chinese food container you try to catch them in to throw them outside.
No need to kill these puppies, it probably means you have cochroaches as well.
