| | | Re: Ladies and makeup | Quote: | | | | | Not really a nightmare, just a bit embarrassing - I took this massage course a few years back and somehow assumed it would all be very theoretical. Wrong. The course started with the instructor showing us a few basic things and then "pair up and strip down to your underwear". I was wearing a lacy, very see-through set that day, might as well have been naked, as if stripping down to your underwear in front of a bunch of strangers was not bad enough. | | | | | Why we never get a picture with those stories... | | This user would like to thank Nil for this useful post: | |

Reasonable with short flights. But one looks better waking up after a 10 hour flight without make up than with make up smeared all over, panda-eyes, foundation flaking etc. the trick is to take it all off after you have boarded and settled in your seat and put a new layer on just before landing (yes, that's the reason all toilets are always occupied on planes, sorry).

Worst nightmare: once I saw this woman in the supermarket who was clearly at that time o.... you know what it's just to gross to mention

I almost never date a women who wears makeup. If I do, they usually stop wearing it fairly quickly.
In my opinion it's a simple indicator of deceit, misrepresentation and lies :P

I usually just wear eye-makeup for everyday stuff- when I don't, all I get is comments about how tired I look
If I'm going out then I'll put on the full face but even then the aim is to just brighten up and enhance rather than layer it on thick.
Besides if I wear foundation too often my skin gets awful, it just can't handle being covered up all day everyday.

-Coco Chanel
I know of a lady who's husband has never seen her without makeup. I know of another lady who couldn't give a flying pig about any kind of grooming.
Pre-kids, I would not leave the house without makeup. These days, people can just be grateful that I am wearing clothes and not pajamas! (Sorry Coco, I guess that makes me severely impolite.)
How do you feel about all of this? Which side of the scale do you find yourself on? | | | | | It all depends...Gym-no, running to Coop-unlikely, work and other-absolutely. My caveats are that I do not have kids (& probably more time to spend on myself) & have been brought up in an 'old school' country where it is generally expected from women to always look 'polished'. Work for a modeling agency probably further reinforced this over time. Personally, I like to feel pretty & make-up & good grooming do the trick. Plus it can be good fun to do properly. Having said that, it should never be 'expected' from you.

I have an aunt (the one with the mastectomy from an earlier post), she used to have a hair salon. Ever since I remember her (still now) she is quite a character, she wears extremely heavy eye make-up (black eyelids with black all the way up the skin of the eye-sockets), bright lip stick and she has very short bright blond hair. Combined with her, eh, face-lifting from within (due to junk food ) she actually looks very good, specially if you take her 78 years into account....

It's not a question of make-up (mention this and most people imagine, yes, Barbara Cartland) but rather grooming and taking good care of yourself.
A little well-applied make-up can enhance.

I've been brought up with the mantra: "Let the skin breathe" - mum has always drilled into me that make up clogs the pores = spots and all those chemicals will age your skin faster. Facials wont remove all that dirt yadda yadda.
Hence, I've only slapped on the full works for formal occasions and oh yes, my own wedding. Most uncomfortable. Its like wearing a mask.
Other times, its good hair, lipstick, masacara is enough to make me feel good.
To diss women who wear make up (from both the male and female camps) is a tad bit unfair I think. Make up does enhance and I mean there are so many of those out there these days, be it the push up bra, botox etc etc. Not many celebs are real anymore, are highly photoshopped and are usually never out without make-up, yet the men still fall all over them whilst banging on about how women shouldnt wear makeup. Tut.

With a total journey time of 45 minutes, that's a very early start after being up late doing homework. | | | | | Young fresh-faced beauties can get away with that. The more mature (for lack of a more pleasant word) ladies as I cannot | Quote: | | | | | Maybe you know the story of the founder of Blacksocks: he had to meet japanese businessmen, and instead of going in a usual meeting room with tables and chairs, they had to sit on a kind of carpet/tatami and remove their shoes before. He was very embarassed and ashamed as his black socks were not so black anymore and in very bad condition. He invented then subscription based blacksocks business. Get regularly your black socks and never be embarrased, that's what I call learning from embarassement
So what would be your nightmare story? | | | | | Oh I remember one time (at band camp..haha!) my first real job in a bank involved going out to see clients. It was a hot summers day and I had one of my favourite dresses on. Off I go to a client and come back to the office. Upon arrival, a female colleague of mine asked me if I was wearing a petty-coat to which I replied "no, how come?". Well, turns out my dress was very see-through when I had the sun behind me. | Quote: | | | | | personally i think it depends on the woman and her natural colour and skin tones. Some women look fantastic with zero makeup and maybe just a lipstick. Others need the full 15 layers of foundation and powder etc to be considered acceptable,
actually in my view most makeup is just a deception and hides reality. it also mostly causes the skin to age much faster, and then leads to heavier quantities of makeup to camouflage the aging...
Girls its up to you, but i think minimal is best. | | | | | True.. I've noticed Asian ladies age very beautifully and don't need much makeup at all.

It's a must after a certain age, to "revive" the face.
Heard: "I think you look great without make-up.". Harhar! *whispering* "You've never seen me without it.".
I do admit to putting it on with a trowel at night, it's amazing how that, with poor lighting can take off the years; beer goggles have nothing to do with this perception.

I always wear make-up to work & when going out. At work I wear glasses; you can't see my eyes otherwise & anyway I like to wear it. On the weekend if I am not going anywhere then I don't bother, can't be arsed putting it on to go to the Coop or hanging around the house.

ditto, I always wear makeup to work and touch up if going out at night. I have no problem going to the beach or out on the weekends without makeup, but honestly, I am the kinda girl who needs makeup! I have the horrible sallow olive skin and can look pasty if I dont add some colour, even if I only add a touch of blush, mascara and lipgloss, I look less like death walking, and I think everyone appreciates that, even if they don't realize it!
I agree, some ladies have gorgeous skin tone and can get away with nothing, but alas, some of us (well me anyhow) aren't so lucky.

In dept.stores, the ladies (young and older ones) working in cosmetics section make excessive usage of makeup. Is maybe part of the job description. Discovered also that makeup for legs exists!!
