| | | Ladies and makeup
“I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”
-Coco Chanel
I know of a lady who's husband has never seen her without makeup. I know of another lady who couldn't give a flying pig about any kind of grooming.
Pre-kids, I would not leave the house without makeup. These days, people can just be grateful that I am wearing clothes and not pajamas! (Sorry Coco, I guess that makes me severely impolite.)
How do you feel about all of this? Which side of the scale do you find yourself on?

I will not be seen without make-up. Not a lot, but I just feel better.

worst i saw, is a lady taking train with wet curly hair....as if she just got out of her shower. So for me by order of importance:
1) hair
2) elegance (clothes, shoes)
3) makeup
4) fingers, hands, nails

week-ends, no make-up, but a touch of gloss.... work - some foundation, mascara... on a good day even a bit of pencil.
I guess for me it is war paint!!!

There's just no way of getting out of wearing makeup to look good.. | | | | | Agreed, but erring on the side of caution and understatement. Barbara Cartland being a prime example of the opposite. http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/...08cartland.jpg
Less is more: The late romance novelist Barbara Cartland advised women who use cosmetics not to advertise the fact that they do. Okay ...

I know some women who wear a mask all the time. Even their oldest friends have never seen their real face. That is just so sad. It isn't their complexion that needs attention but their self esteem. How much of their life gets wasted worrying about covering their real selves up?
Each to his or her own but what a waste.

I love make up too, specially eye make up, some eye shadow and mascara is very necessary for me. but I do not have a problem to go for shopping or for similar things without it.

If it was long, blonde and curly this could have been me! I don't even brush it you know, hair like mine doesn't need it.
As for make up.... umm that would be twice in the last (OMG) 20 years. What thou see-eth, is what thou getteth! I would hate to go out with a bloke and then after washing his face he looked completely diferent.
Those women who say they "need" make-up, obviously it's a self-image issue, but don't you feel even more insecure when it eventually has to come off for the first time with a new guy? | Quote: | | | | | worst i saw, is a lady taking train with wet curly hair....as if she just got out of her shower. I would like to say that it is only since having my baby that I don't make an effort with my appearance but sadly that is not true
I am lazy and prefer to have extra time in bed than spend it faffing around in the mirror. If I'm going out I will put on a bit of slap but nothing heavy...in fact you can barely notice I am wearing any. I am not a particularly girly girl and have never mastered the art of makeup application | | The following 4 users would like to thank mimi1981 for this useful post:

When we got married, she had a small amount of foundation cream and light lip gloss. That's pretty much the only time she's seriously worn make-up.
I like her that way, and she's happy to oblige. | | The following 4 users would like to thank Carlos R for this useful post:

I am self-concious of what I look like. I am not as self-confident as I wish I was. I really don't see me as pretty, so need a bit of work.
I spend some 4 years living, working and teaching to absolutely stunning women. I have been around plenty of models and it does make you feel self-concious.
The level was high and I had to put some effort.
Now, here..... well, not much on the high level. I mean most of the women don't wear make-up and don't take much care of their look.
I still can't go out of the house without make-up. No one can't say because I do prefer the natural way than the huge red stripes on both cheeks I sometimes see. | | This user would like to thank Nil for this useful post:

I always wear makeup:
- when getting married
- when flying
The rest of the time it's a bit hit-or-miss. I don't really like how it feels, nor how my skin feels the next day.
I like the act of putting makeup on though... the excitement of getting ready to go out. Doesn't matter if all we do is catch the train into town, stroll down along the Limmat and catch the train home again - if I've gotten dolled up for it then it's an Evening Out.
