So, at the end of October 2011, I had some form of hair straightening (see earlier posts) which by all accounts was nothing to do with Brazilian Hair Straightening, despite being called "Brazilian technique".
This week I have been in the UK and consulted with Toni & Guy. They have reasoned that the treatment I had in October was actually some form of hair relaxation (which may explain the dryness). So on Monday I bit the bullet and went with the Toni & Guy product offered - Nano Keratin.
Monday..?! Why on earth did I choose a Monday! I was working in the UK for 10 days, I could have chosen a much better day. Thankfully and by some miracle, by Thursday my hair didn't look as bad as I thought it should have (aided by dry shampoo) however, it felt absolutely horrible and was rather lank. Definitely a look I wouldn't repeat if possible whilst being in the office. Having to do a presentation on Thursday evening really didn't help matters.
So this morning (Friday).... I leapt out of bed and washed my lank and greasy mop... twice... with the shampoo Toni & Guy provided (included in the treatment price - Label M Organic). When I washed it I was expecting silky smooth hair but it really felt as bad as it did after the last treatment - coarse and dry. However, I used a bit of conditioner (which apparently isn't normally required) and the texture started to improve. After applying a little bit of Thermo-protective product, I started to dry my hair.
Not since my teens have I used a brush when drying my hair, as previously it was quite curly. After the last treatment in October, I dried my hair just using the hair drier and my fingers and ended up with very voluminous, albeit straight-ish, hair.
This time was much, much different. I dried my hair in the same manner and was amazed that I could have actually left the building without using the irons at all. In fact, I did use the irons, but only to smooth down the few unruly strands. Using the irons took less than 5 mins - after the previous "straightening" I would estimate it took me 15-20 mins. Before any straightening (i.e. before October 2011), I would guess it would have taken me nearly 1 hour to straighten my hair.
I am truly amazed! Despite all the caveats that Toni & Guy mentioned when I had the treatment ("this is hair smoothing, not straightening") my mop is actually straighter and feels quite good. I realise it is early days but I am quite surprised. I really thought it would be a repetition of the last attempt.
I hope this helps and I'll keep you all posted!!
