Re: Swiss Mystery #5: who is that nice old woman at Zurich HB?

I think he was evicted from the country, or they are trying to. There was a 20min report a while back about his bewiligung not being renewed. He said in the interview, (something like) "I know I was done for drugs before, but I am good now, really I am"....

My wife told me that there was a gentleman wearing a bikini near Paradeplatz a couple of weeks ago.

It was a skimpy bikini at that - his tackle was hanging out.

It might be a little cold for him now but has anyone else seen this Baywatch Beauty?
I saw this guy, it was pretty bizarre because his facial expression and whole demeanor was as if he were wearing a suit, and nothing was odd. He was however wearing a very high cut womans swimsuit.

My friend was in the curry house in Migros City some time ago have a quick lunch, and this woman sat alone at a table nearby, stark naked. The waiters went apoplectic when they notice and threw her out , and they could then be seen in the kitchen trying to scrub the chair her naked behind had occupied...

Do we have a photo of this lady, just to see if anybody else has seen her?

Re: Swiss Mystery #5: who is that nice old woman at Zurich HB?

hi, her name is Lydia...she use to be a nurse and comes to the Bahnhof to bless and pray for the people in her way. She is a wonderful woman. She comes to the station at around 3-4pm and stays until late into the night...then pushes her wheel chair home. She lives close by...speaks english too.

That's a good question... I searched on this site and couldn't find anything out about him. eg:

Just curious. He's one of the local fixtures.
I heard that the roller blade man used to work for UBS

Long live "Roller-Dude". After 4 years of living on a main access road into Zürich and watching how many luxury cars drive past every morning with only one person inside, I kinda get where he's coming from.

That's very sweet.

But I feel very sorry for her. I have a feeling she is very sad on the inside

Re: Swiss Mystery #5: who is that nice old woman at Zurich HB?

I've got another one - older lady hanging around Paradeplatz last Saturday - doing 'police duty' on anyone with a baby that she considered under-dressed... went off her head at me in Swiss-German because my toddler didn't have a beanie, gloves or jacket on...I promise you he was already wearing three layers, in his sleeping bag, and we were only changing trams 1 minute max in the cold...

She didn't let up until I put his hat and jacket on and walked away! - then I saw her heading for the next unsuspecting mum with child...

It's OK, he's my third child...I've got used to this sort of thing (almost)...

I think if kids are sweating in their prams and you can see the beads of sweat rolling down their face...they are probably overdressed...

Unique Characters in Zürich

As I am going about my daily activities in central Zürich, especially during the summer I have noticed that certain attention-grabbing folks keep showing up again and again. While I am sure Zürich has a lot of unique characters, there are a few that stand above the rest.

I bet there are some really interesting stories about these folks. One that comes to mind is this guy that inline skates around Zürich with what looks like body paint and short-shorts. I must have seen him 50 times so he must be some sort of folk legend or minor celebrity in this city. Does this guy have a name? Is he just some wacky guy on skates or is there a story there?

Does anyone else have any stories behind some of the unique Zürich characters?

As an aside, I realize some of these characters including the guy on the skates might not completely sane and I do not want to be insensitive to that. I hope the question has not offended anyone.

Not sure this post makes sense anymore in the context of a reply to this thread as opposed to the start of a new thread.

I've encountered the skater guy last week while cycling, he skated on my lane in the wrong direction but we didn't collide. Same outfit as always.

She is almost always there. Some times she is asleep, sometimes she is awake and smiling at people. Usually she hangs out near in between the meeting point and the announcement board. Frequently she has her door mat spread out in front of her wheel chair.

Who is this mystery woman? Does anybody know her story?

There are different theories about her that I've heard. Some SBB staff call her "Mother Teresa" but I don't know if this has anything to do with her real name.

Some say she is some sort of mystic who prays for and blesses the people who use the station.

Others say she lost a daughter in a train crash many many years ago and decided to spend as much time as she could at the station (maybe waiting for some miraculous return?). The two stories needn't be contradictory.

He has a vague resemblance to the artist. I haven't seen him for a long time. I hear he was in trouble over drugs charges so maybe they took his licence away?

Re: Swiss Mystery #5: who is that nice old woman at Zurich HB?

There also used to be a guy who hung around HB. He used to creep up to people and then roar as load as he could to scare them. He also used to sit down next to people on the tram and start saying "it's your fault, it's all your fault" (in German, can't remember the exact words). And then "everybody hates me, nobody is nice to me" or something like that.

I met him in the launderette once. I couldn't easily go away with my washing in the machine and a madman around so I put up with him. After he'd gone through his normal ritual of shouting and accusing me he calmed down and we started talking. He spoke excellent English (said his mum was English) and he started acting normally and we chatted for quite a while about all sorts of subjects. If you hadn't seem him before you wouldn't have thought he had a problem.

Re: Swiss Mystery #5: who is that nice old woman at Zurich HB?

Do you remeber the guy who claimed to be the king of Zurich. He used to post his royal proclamations at tram stops, and held impromptu speeches. He also never bought a tram ticket, saying that being king he didn't need one. Don't know hat happened to him.
