Hello, I would be interested in getting in contact with any Home Educators in the Zürich region.
I am home educating my 8 year old son.
If you would be interested in meeting us for some work together, ice skating or museum visit please get in contact.
We are learning in English but my son also speaks very good German.
I would like him to have some social interation with kids around his age if possible.

One of the reasons parents send their children to school is so that they have social contact with other children.

I am not questioning your reasons for homeschooling your son. All I am saying is that I have never really heard of it being a great success, and sooner or later the children head back to school.

I had no idea you were allowed to home educate in Zürich. How did you manage it?

Given some of the kids my children have had contact with, I can understand some parents not wanting their kids in school!

I know a couple of homeschooled kids. They kept up their social contacts no problem with non-school activities and clubs. One of the these kids is now at university studying to be a doctor.

In Germany it is illegal to home-school under laws dating back to the nazi-era. In Switzerland it is legal but carefully controlled.

Im not asking for judgements about why I am homeschooling. Believe me this decision was not easy for me.
My son has a variety of afterschool activities and a brother so he will not be without social contact. It would be nice for him, and me, for him to have some children he could meet up with during the day however.
I There are groups like this in the UK and I would be interested to know if there are any here.
As I understand the rules in Canton Zürich it is possible to homeschool for one year. Longer if the teacher has a teaching qualification.

Hi Heather, There is a good home education organisation in Switzerland. www.bildungzuhause.ch/en/home.html . Oliver who is in Zurich and connected with BZH is, or used to be, on this forum. We don't home educate anymore, but when I first told the local council we were going to home educate they were fine with it. As it happened though, my oldest decided to try the local school. She was allowed a 5 week trial to see how she liked it before she was officially registered. She never regrets being home educated. Of course, back in England there are plenty of people doing it too - we had 5 familes in our village. Here in the mountains there are HE familes, but they are few and far between.

I guess you have done a search and seen similar threads such as this one, and are following the canton curriculum in german.

I cannot find the link just now, but you might find it difficult to find a group as I think homeschooling was made illegal in Switzerland last year.
