It is time for an example.

Looking into the oven to see if the cookies are baked is Non Destructive Testing.

Eating a cookie to see if it is baked is Destructive Testing.

Now you just have to apply this to for instance a production facility when OP could be working and imagine him sitting there all day staring at cookies.....

Can any help with the expected salary for a non destructive test technichian in Swiss.

Qualified in FPI,MPI, ECI, and experience in UT.

Best Regards
Zampa what industry are you looking to work in? Have you applied to the various aviation companies in basel? I have worked in them all and the salary in each varies quite a bit. In switzerland your salary is based on your age, number yrs experience and qualifications. You could be working with another person doing the same job and he/she could be making 500chf a month more than you just because of age, experience and how well you negotiated your contract etc...

Anyway typical salary range in the aviation industry in basel is 5000-7000 gross per month depending which company you work in. (-25% roughly for NET [tax, AHV, ALV, Pension]). As you can see it's quite a difference. Other industries I don't know about. BTW I am not a NDT technician.

Now that your question was answered go introduce yourself in the introductions forum and be sure to use the search function before asking more questions. the majority of the questions you will have would have being asked already. It takes a lot of work to run a forum and the MODs shouldn't have to be cleaning up the 1000's of duplicate threads that newbies post without searching first. I know your question re NDT jobs probably wasn't asked before but you should have included more information in the original post. It really is quite annoying for us locals to see the thread highlights every day with the same repeated questions.

Also if you do move to Basel there are lots of things happening, check out the social section for some advents.

Best of luck on the job search

Sadly I still have no idea what the job is.... Thanks for trying! lol
miniMia Non destructive testing (NDT) is when they use various techniques like ECI-Eddy Current Inspection, MPI-Magnetic Particle Inspection,
FPI-Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection and UT-Ultrasonic testing to test various materials for failures e.g cracks, de-lamination, stresses, corrosion etc.. you do this as the terms suggests in a Non destructive way.

Quantum theory states that the cookie is neither done nor not done until you look at it. That's pretty damn destructive

Thank you. I did look it up on Wiki, but to be honest your cookie example is the best! All those terms up there are just blah, blah, blah! LOL

Thanks also for helping zampa out.

Re: Non Destructive Testing Jobs ...Salary..???

The salary for such a job in 2010 was 78,975, which increased to 81,215 in 2011. Hope this helps.

(until anyone proves me otherwise I'm right. Right?)

Re: Non Destructive Testing Jobs ...Salary..???

People are so nice over here.

A friend of mine had one in Luzern. The salary was around 5.5K pro month, though he had rather little (<2y) expirience in the topic. Overall I would say you can expect enough to have a normal life.
