I'm basically thinking of sending my CV + Cover letter to media agencies in Zurich asking for entry level jobs/internships in social media/marketing.
Is this customary in Switzerland? It's fairly standard practice in England to send out your CV or to contact companies even if they don't have any vacancies advertised.

I just want to know if it's ok to do that in Switzerland or whether it is a horrible faux pas.

We regularly get such CVs sent in and our HR will pass them on to a manager who may be interested in the profile, even if an actual vacancy doesn't exist.

Spontaneous CVs are welcome here.

Its how i was offered a job in switzerland. well offered 2 actually. i targeted several companies and hey presto.

It's a bit hit and miss but we have recruited people via a speculative CV. One actually saved us a packet in advertising / agency charges because it was a direct application and their timing was spot-on.

Turned out to be a brill recruit, too!

There are plenty of places that will chuck it in the bin, too, but don't be disheartened.
