Just a remainder: max insured salary is 107k per year or so. You get 70% of it and with dependen children 80% of it.

That's gross as you still have to pay usual taxes and deductions

I got my first RAV payment recently... it was about 25% of my normal salary. I was expecting 70%. I have been very diligent in my job search, get along great with my RAV counsellor. I haven't received any "salary statement" yet.. but a friend says normally the first 2-3 weeks are not paid by RAV and this could be the reason.

Anyone any ideas?
sounds about right if you are used to earning 28K a month. I guess these days a lot of investment bankers are having a reality check.

jokes aside, you will get 70% (%80 if you have kids) of your insured salary. salary insurance is capped at 10'500 per month

Good luck with your job search!

You start the process at your Gemeinde: that's the place you register yourself 'unemployed'. And you'll need (for the RAV) to show that you've already searched and applied for jobs before your registration.

To be fair is that the first thing you read in any support material for start ups in Switzerland. It was also highlighted to me in the "RAV 101" course which tells you what to do if you lose your job: If you decide to start a company, you basically sign off your rights to get RAV payments for months.

This makes Switzerland not exactly the best place to start a company, but on the other hand was the problem that many badly planned start ups go bankcrupt in the first years. The people decided that the RAV should be a safety net for employees, not for entrepreneurs.

I don't really agree with that thought, but that's the beauty of democracy... you get what the majority deserves. On top of that do I not know any numbers and can very well imagine that some crafty people managed to abuse the system before by being "independant" - say you needed one more month to be eligible to get RAV payments, so you quickly start a one man company and pay yourself a salary for a month...

If you do become independent your rahemnfrist doubles to 4 years, so if after 2 years you chuck it in you can take your RAV payments later.
