CHF1600 is below the threshold for pension payments. I pay my part time nanny more than that and have been informed that pension payments are not made with this level of pay.
That is incorrect, Lou, in the sense that Avs paid by all, as a percent of income. It is a mandatory insurance for all. It does not have a minimum.

Nope, I am correct or at least the BVG are correct in what they told me. It is not just written in the letter they send me but can also be found on their web site: http://www.chaeis.net/en/lob-occupat...anmeldung.html

Your employees will be insured in the pension plan AN, provided they obtain a LOB annual salary subject (at least CHF 20'880 .00). The pension plan covers all services provided by AT mandatory occupational pensions.

Re: English Au-pair needing some advice on au-pair regulations in Switzerland.

Hi all,
Ok here goes
Im planning on moving to Switzerland to work as a Nanny,
I dont want to be an Aupair, as the hours are restricted and i don't want to live with employers
I have a job lined up (sort of) with a family to work around 40 hours a week, and the opportunity to live alone, but im struggling to find the right permit to do this.
I think it would be a permit B (just a general work permit) that would be my best option, but can any body give me advice ?!?

Also from the point of view of the employer, what do they have to do to register me as an employee, as i wont be an au pair as such, and how do they go about decalring me financially?

Many Thanks

When you have a working contract, you can get some accomodation. Take your work contract and rental contract to the citizens' registration office (Einwohner Anmelden. Bureau de population registration?) with your EU passport and register there. It is up to the authorities to decide which permit you will get, probably a B.

You need to register for health insurance, monthly premium will be backdated to the month you arrived, so avoid arriving on the last day of the month! http://en.comparis.ch/krankenkassen/default.aspx

Ask your employer to register you with the AHV or AVS. They have to deduct income tax and pay it for you.

Ask employer for a signed monthly statement of salary and deductions for income tax, unemployment insurance, AHV/AVS contributions, plus a few others.

There are two essential books to read, the first is your reference bible, the second helps you understand this country,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_...d+island&ajr=0

I have a 22 year old son and a 20 year old daughter living here, contact me if you will be living near Bern.
