Are women treated differently in the working world of Switzerland / your homeland?

Have you made the experience that women are treated in another way in Switzerland's companies than they are in the working environment of your home country?

in fact, women have it easier here than men. thats just how good it is for women in switzerland. im afraid you will have to look to another country for a bit of good old fashion women-in-the-workplace sexism.

I know of several women here from Australia & UK who say they earn less here than in their own countries for doing the same work and also find the enviroment much more sexist than in the UK.
They have all stepped out from the "comfortable" multinationals.

interesting. I know several women who earn significantly more than in their home countries for doing the same work and find it less sexist than in the UK.

Going on the responses, it seems your experience is the exception rather than the rule.

Re: Are women treated differently in the working world of Switzerland?

I don't think women are generally treated differently. But once you are pregnant, some people expect the future mother to step down and take care of the kid for a while.

I think that is the only difference I've perceived so far.

Re: Are women treated differently in the working world of Switzerland?

Yes. They are paid on average 20 percent less than a man doing the same job. I have experienced this at 7 different companies. It is ingrained in the culture.

Re: Are women treated differently in the working world of Switzerland?

Yes.

Only 2 women work in my office, and we both earn less than male colleagues with similar jobs, experience and title.

I also have problems being taken seriously on the phone, since everyone thinks I am a secretary and not someone with responsabilities. As mentioned before in this forum, it went to the point of people demanding to speak to a male manager instead. Those kind of situations are easily solved with an iron fist. Salaries, unfortunately, not.

Yes. I never pat my male colleagues' arse when they walk past, or oggle at their cleavage.

The question was not whether women are treated in a different way than men, but if women are treated differently in Switzerland than in the home countries of the respondents.

Re: Are women treated differently in the working world of Switzerland / your homeland

In my field, no, there isn't a huge difference. The only difference is that in my field (engineering) there are fewer of us women here in Switzerland. But I get treated equally compared to the guys.
