How long to get work permit

I just got a job at a hospital and currently have a dependent B permit. They want me to start on Oct. 15. Will they be able to get a work permit for me in time? They did not know much about this issue so they didn't think it was a problem, but I have read that it takes 4 weeks for someone with an L permit. Is this any faster with a B permit? Thanks!

Re: How long to get work permit

I arrived in Switzerland back in July and my permit still hasn't arrived. However, as long as you are in the process of getting a permit, that should be sufficient to allow you to work. I think. Someone else may give you better advice.

Do you need at all nees a separate WP if you are on B permit?
My wife was on dependant L permit, her WP processing took 4 weeks.

Re: How long to get work permit

Yes, my permit (B) is dependent on my husband and I still need a work permit. Is there anyone who has gotten this and how long has it taken? If I am able to work as long as this is in process, then that is good news too, can anyone verify this? Thanks so much!

Having the work permit is not the issue it is having the decision that you will get one. If you have that you can work and wait the additional two months for the permit. Based on the work permit agreement you then need to get a social security card but that should not be a problem and you can start work without both as long as you have the positive decision with respect to the permit or are an EU citizen.

And who decides this? The Swiss government? What is the social security card for? My husband doesn't have this to my knowledge and he's been working for 3 months now. Thanks for the answers.

Re: How long to get work permit

it says on this website:

"Ability to work

The residence permit for dependents is based on family reunion and does not give any right to work. Should the accompanying spouse wish to work, he or she must apply for his or her own work permit."

http://pubweb.fdbl.com/ihp8/global/m...d?opendocument

how to apply? where to apply? what are the requirements"
