Hi all!

My boyfriend and I were both relocated to Switzerland in March 2010. After working incredibly long hours (up to 12 hours a day); not getting promoted as agreed despite being considered a "high performer" and working for a micro-manager, resulting in me getting quite sick, I decided I had to resign.

I left my job at the end of Jun-2011 and went home to my family in south africa for some respite.

I am now back in Switzerland (Lausanne) with my boyfriend and was wondering if I am now able (while job searching) to seek unemployment. Being employed and paying tax is my core objective, but it would be good to know if I still qualify for unemployment. The alternative would be to work in London and commute which is not ideal because I cannot afford to be out of work (career and financial) for an extended period.

Can anybody offer advise please.

Awesome idea. Your issues with over work, boss and promotions shouldn't be taxpayers problems.

Actually rule is you need to be in Switzerland for certain period of time working and contributing to unemployment insurance to be eligible. They made the rule like this to get rid of people who simply wants to land here and make easy more.

If you contributed for 12 months I would guess you are eligible. Head on over to the ORP office and talk to them.
