I did go through some of the posts here, but most of them are a bit old and possibly outdated.

We are family of 3, me wife and 8 yr old son and have been asked to move to basel in summer next year.

Current package given is 156000 inclusive of pay and rent. They will provide for insurance, car, and school fees for my son over and above.

Can someone guide me to the following.

1. Is this salary good?
2. how much should i expect at hand after paying tax and rent (approx 3000 CHF)
3. Do the school fees paid by company come under tax exemption
4. What are the house prices for rent in and around basel and is it easy to find

Things move slow here, so they may be old, but probably not outdated. Rents haven't changed that much in 5 years, nor salaries, that much.

So it's an expat deal? You'll be here for X amount of time by the sounds of it, with an uplift on the salary?

That depands on what job you're doing of course. It's certainly enough to live on, and as other posts state, it's certainly a lot more than most families live on here. And you get a free car, and health insurance, probably together worth CHF15k or more a year to you.

Look on homegate.ch for an idea of prices, it's in English. All things taken in consideration, I'd look at paying between CHF2500 to CHF3500 in rent, depending on what you want and where you want to live. There are dozens of apartments and enough houses to rent.
