Hi all!

I was reading some job postings at a bank, and I kept getting across the term CFC.

After doing some googeing I figured that it stands for Federal Certificate of Competence (or am I wrong, shouldn't if be FCC?).

My question is: how do you obtain it? I asked google but it didn't tell me much...

Is it worth investing in this certificate? Seems like a couple of banks view it as a big plus.

You go to school for it. It's like a diploma.

En Suisse, le certificat fédéral de capacité (ou CFC) est décerné à la fin d'un apprentissage d'une durée de 3 ou 4 ans après réussite de l'examen de fin d'apprentissage ou procédure de qualification équivalente suivie avec succès. Il est délivré par les autorités cantonales. Le CFC est l'équivalent, selon les cas, d'un BP (brevet professionnel) ou d'un baccalauréat professionnel français.
La formation débute à la fin de la scolarité obligatoire (15-16 ans) et se déroule en alternance entre les cours académiques à l'école professionnelle et la formation en entreprise.




In short, a CFC is obtained at the end of a 3 or 4 year apprenticeship in a trade/craft (plumber, electrician, hairdresser, baker, admin/secretary. etc). You don't go to full-time school, but spend 3 days as an apprentice in a suitable business, and normally 2 days in a specialised school. It has to be linked to an approved apprenticeship with a suitable business- and combines practical and academic/vocational studies. Each C/Kanton as its own system.

Ok, very informative answers! Is this instead of going to a gymnasium or do you do it after the gymnasium?

Seems the jobs that require this don't require one to have attended University?

It sounds like it's a vocational thing and you'll do it from when you leave school.

You can do it instead of but you can also do it after. There are CFCs you can do as an adult, career changer, etc.
