Trader Bonus 2011

Dear all,

Is there anyone else being employed as a trader in Switzerland? How was your 2011 bonus compared to the years before?

To my surprise I did not have to take a big hit but some of my colleagues received (far) less then they expected.

There is some downsizing going on but so far only in terms of people leaving voluntarily are not being replaced.

Thanks for you feedback.

Hi County_Mouse,

a quick glimpse at some of your posts indicates that you are an IT (working at a bank). Same reaction at the company I work for - it is called "envy". Maybe we even work for the same employer

Bonuses are performance based right? So what others got is irrelevant.

People do not envy us, they envy the money we earn.

"Prem69" - perhaps if you start off with a polite introduction of yourself, the response to your post will not be quite as hostile. Plenty of nice folk around here, but flaunting your income / bonus is generally frowned upon (not just in EF).

Any trader who has to come on a forum and ask for information about their own business is probably trading skittles anyway.

You know, if you have to tell people you are, you aren't.

As it's a bonus, anything about zero is ... a bonus. It's only a hit if you've actually had a negative bonus.

That'd be fun wouldn't it. Make a tidy profit, get a tidy bonus. Screw up beyond recognition and be landed with a tidy mortgage...

True dat .

OP - as a Financial Markets Veteran, and a Senior Trader, you shouldn't need to ask. But I suspect you are not what you say you are so I shall leave you to it

Re: Trader Bonus 2011

Please tell Kweku Adoboli to quit asking about his fuccing bonus!!!!!

He's not going to get one this year.

Also, if you list yourself as "Senior Trader", thats like saying you are a Senior in highschool..... Real senior traders typically leave after their 8th year on the job (once they have become senior) to start their own fund.

But the fact that youre "senior" anything and dont understand the metrics of your companies bonus structure means that you will probably be cut with the next lot of prop-teams that wasnt good enough to get seeded by a couple of local family offices.

So we are all happy that you made the same CHF15,000 bonus this year that you made last year! Hoorah....!

But this is probably the dumbest post Ive ever read for the mere fact that its common knowledge that any short vol bank-prop trading wanker didnt earn more that CHF1mn this year because vol has been over 30 and equities are flat on the year. If you owned treasuries and thats how you have made your money, then enjoy it while it lasts because GOVT's wont go past zero yields.

But truely, a dumb place to post this Kweku.

Yes we probably work in the same market, for the same employer, difference is I would be never use a forum to gloat/show off. Plenty of people work a lot harder than me, for a lot less money and never see a bonus. Given the state of the economy I'm very lucky!

Re: Trader Bonus 2011

Surely a trader gets more than 15k bonus for a start, otherwise they clearly do not make as much as I thought.

How is he showing off by the way?

Some people get so touchy here about money or ones employment, I detect deeper underlying tones of resentment.

Sorry OP, I am not a trader so can't help on that front. But my bonus was 100% better than the one I got last year, as I wasn't under a bonus scheme then , I best stop showing off now

Re: Trader Bonus 2011

Nil, you dont get it. In this industry its a very very well known fact that bonuses have been slashed for the prop traders who were not good enough to get jobs outside of banks. Banks are cutting prop jobs massively because of the new rules and taxs on banks.

Since the banks have no reason to keep these traders on good terms they cut their bonuses in the hopes they quit. This is his way of saying he is better than everyone else at UBS........

He is being a brazen pome wanker.

Re: Trader Bonus 2011

Would you rather I list myself as retired billionaire? Or would you rather I keep my feet on the ground?

You should understand that I actually know something about what this young kid is actually asking about.

If he isnt trading for CS or UBS then his line isnt bigger than 100bucks. Thats not that big and he probably didnt earn a very large bonus. By mentioning UBS I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

But I am detecting a duplicate account here. Are you sure you arent the OP?
