I don't get the "just play along" responses. Why not call HR and ask? Easy, then the wondering is done.
you've never worked for an international org. have you?

nobody ever "just asks" anything

"where can I get a cup of coffee?" ...
"there has been a committee looking into that, the report is due next tuesday"

Re: Selection Committee

Buckle up, call your HR rep and ask for more info and details. This way you'll know what your up against and will have a chance to make any preparations (mental or otherwise) needed.

Fortune 100 pharma company, Big 4 audit/consulting firm, and a couple of small 100-man shops. I still advocate the "just ask" approach. I know that the passive approach is more common, but I'm aggressive by nature, and it never hurt me!*

*at work. A couple of scars from a couple of bars could have been avoided....

When I came to work at my first large corporation and implemented the "just ask" approach of the alleged experts, the responses were, "I don't know, go find it."
