How and where to search for a job in the IT (Testing) area...

Hi All!

I am currently an Automation Tester searching a job in this field, for when i go (and if i find it before I go it could be better...) to try to get a job in Switzerland in August of this year... and i would appreciate any tip or recommendation to search a job in the Testing field...

Actually i have ISTQB foundation level (before i go, I am planning to do the Advance level...), speak English, Spanish and a little bit of Italian and French...
Also I`ve almost 2 years of experience, working in companies like EA Games, TCS and others...
(Not going to put the whole CV, because i think that its not appropriate for a post...)

I´ve heard that there are many American Companies there in Switzerland working in the IT field, so i guess is good for those who speak English, but doesn't speak well any native language...

All Thanks all in advance for your comments in this post!!! =)

If you have a work permit, that might be doable. There are jobs, although you will need time to learn the political dance and the niceties of the Swiss market.... If you don't have a work permit, it is a lot harder....

Re: How and where to search for a job in the IT (Testing) area...

Jobserve.com is still pretty good for Switzerland. There is actually a recurring advert that has been coming up every three months seeking an automation tester.

I gather they are hiring people, then firing them three months later because they've decided they "don't fit in" (i.e. you'll be working under a psychopath who is impossible to get on with, but bearable for short-term, and you're going to be fired anyhow).

On the other hand, IT testing jobs in CH is currently a disaster zone. Many of the big firms are bringing in people from off-shore, India, Ukraine, on so-called "training contracts" which differ from the contracts we used to get in two ways:-

- addition of the word "training"
- 90% reduction in salary.

The work they do is otherwise exactly the same as we used to.

So if you're willing to compete against people who are going to work for less than it costs you to eat, to work for companies who know they can totally ignore Swiss employment law simply by entering one word into the contract, and to be insulted by recruitment consultants who will call you up and make you "offers" that involve you working 42 hours to get paid less money that you would get from social security, then go for it.

Not sure this is true... anylonger. Try applying to google in Zuerich. Otherwise, as posted before, testing activities are easy to outsource and are being outsourced as there are large cost savings this way. There are many more IT employment opportunities in Germany, with comparable salaries and a far lower cost of living.
