CV in english or german?

Hi
Can anyone please advise whether it would be wise to submit a cv and cover letter in german in response to an ad in german but by an international company where the working language is english, or would an english version be treated the same?
thanks

If the ad is in German and does not specify otherwise, I would submit your application in German - it can't possibly do any harm if you are good in both languages.

the ads is in german, so better to submit you application in german as well. There is less german speaking than english, thus it can give you more credit.

Re: CV in english or german?

I don’t have a German cv because I don’t speak German. I was advised by a headhunter to do so- it creates false expectations of your level of German- if you say on your cv that your German is ok, but it is in German, then HR thinks that “okay” means “good enough to write a CV”

Re: CV in english or german?

Thanks for the replies. I actually sent the CV in German in the end but felt a bit fraudulent as that does imply I have better German than I really have. I was scared about the interview for that reason but I needn't have worried as I got a negative response within 48 hrs! Obviously my CV wasn't what they wanted, regardless of the lingo...

Are HR people really that naive about candicates' language skills? One gets help to put up a spotless CV in a foreign language. I don't think much of the HR I've been in contact with but I would never dare implying they are that stupid. Don't hesitate to prove me wrong it needed.
