How to get company to 'fire' me?

My company does not take in part timers. It is 100% or nothing at all. I am thinking of reducing my workload after the birth of our child in order to look after the baby but at the same time contribute to the increasing household expenses.

How do I get my company to fire me so that I can claim RAV? I would like tobe in good terms still with them as they are very nice people. So no messing around with my work quality.

I would also try to look for a part time job if I resigned, but if I could get 80% of my salary for 18 months, and I could spend more time with my newborn, I think it is a win win situation. I shouldn’t take advantage of the nice Swiss system, but if my company says no to me working 50%-60% for the next 2years, what can I do?

Don't you already get maternity benefits? Maybe you could just ask to be fired.

Come into work naked, after having a baby I imagine it won't be that pretty and you will certainly be fired.

I am no expert on this and I'm sure someone else better qualified will chip in later, but I don't think you need to be fired to claim from RAV. I have a friend who recently resigned as she was P***ed off with her job and she is claiming benefits. She is also attending a German course 5 days a week - paid for by RAV..

Re: How to get company to 'fire' me?

I get 3.5 months off from work. But as hiring a nanny is very expensive here and I do not wish to put my kid in a krippe at 4 months old. Also, I would like to spend more time looking after my own child, rather than working my ass off.

It sounds bad, but if my company would allow part timers, I would not have such issue now. I can understand that they only want 100% as our working enviornment id quite stressful and fast pace. It will not be fair to the rest of the team when I leave at noon, just because I work only 50%

I can try that, but then my baby and husband might have to visit me in prison????

Re: How to get company to 'fire' me?

while you are on rav:
- you have to be actively looking for a job and take one if one is offered to you under penalty of not getting paid
- if you say you want less than a 100 percent job, the arbeitslosenkasse will only pay the 80% of whatever percentage your are looking for, IIRC

Re: How to get company to 'fire' me?

If you really want to go down that route:
You cannot be forced to work while you breastfeed (Art. 35a Arbeitsgesetz -Working Practices Act-), but you are not paid for that time (whether by your employer or by social security), and can be fired 14 weeks after birth. So you have to (a) breastfeed and (b) inform your employer that you breastfeed and intend not to work while you do. They will either fire you or keep you on unpaid leave.

BTW if you want to be paid unemployment benefits, you have to be available for work, ie you have to have full childcare in place. Otherwise you get nothing.

Re: How to get company to 'fire' me?

If you resign you will not receive RAV money until after 3 months, then you will receive your full allowance....bear in mind that you need to be looking for work when you aren't employed, the RAV will not pay if you aren't actively seeking employment, they will check.
You can of course fake how hard you look for work.

They can also make you go on courses, German courses for example.
Basically I am saying that going on the RAV may not be a good solution for you.

Sue them (you have the right to work part time) and leave with a golden handshake.

Right- you have to be actively seeking employment. Not that you have to take any job that comes down the pike, you can be selective, but if you turn down several positions that would be a perfect match I suspect that they will start to suspect, if you follow.

No you don't have the right to work part time in Switzerland. This isn't Germany, regardless of Blick's headline of the day or the latest SVP rant.

So no messing around with my work quality.
Definitely don't mess around with work quality. That's like a death by a thousand blows. It takes ages and ages, and what's worse, there's every chance that senior management is so clueless they never even notice.

No, what you want to go for is gross misconduct or gross incompetence. These are like pulling the band-aid off all at once.

I'm sure that we can come up with loads of suggestions.

1. Auction off your office equipment on eBay
2. Make every day 'bring your dog to work day'
3. Give your boss a pat on the ass each morning along with a 'way to go, Tiger!'
4. Give scores out of 10 any time someone gives a Powerpoint presentation

These are just the beginning. I'm sure others will have lots of good suggestions.

Did you not think about this when you got pregnant? I was a single mum not so long ago and not once did I consider getting fired so I could sit at home for 18 months on benefits and save myself the daycare fees.

Search for a new job in another company who do allow part time work rather than try to find ways to diddle the system.

Call 20 Minuten and offer an interview about your employer and how mean they are to pregnant women.

^^This, and also, there are companies who have daycare in house. If you find a job with one of them, you can still be near your baby.
